President Donald Trump and Republicans are moving full speed ahead in an extraordinary push to redraw congressional district maps ahead of next year's midterm elections, when the GOP will be defending its razor-thin House majority.

This is how we get into a North vs South situation again. If republicans actually think this is ok then they won't mind democrats doing the same. I'd expect they would encourage it as a political strategy seeing as they are so quick to embrace it. Of course, the difference is republicans are trying to choose their voters so they can consolidate power for themselves while democrats are protecting their constituents from authoritarian terror.

I think each state should be able to determine how their own districts are drawn, yes.

Funny thing is many Democrat states have put it in their constitution or passed laws that take the power away from the state legislature and governor and give it to an independent committee because they wanted to virtue signal, now they are bitching because they ceded that power.

I also think Democrats would have a harder time pulling this off because most of their support is in large cities, or they have already gerrymandered their districts to maximize their seats anyways. Only 17% of California districts are Republican, 26% of NY districts are Republican, and 32% of Texas districts are Democrat, and somehow Texas is the problem here.

If the people of Texas don't like what the state government is doing then they can vote those people out office.
