Wouldn’t be surprised if McHenry was voted in full time.
If Trump became speaker of the house would be even more dysfunctional than it is now. We don’t need a dysfunctional Congress.

Unholy alliance? You mean voted along party lines. They owed no allegiance to McCarthy, and after he launched an impeachment inquiry the star witness immediately shot down, passed pointless go nowhere bills over and over in lieu of discussion and compromise, after the moron hearings he championed under Jordan and Comer, after his protection of Santos only to eventually fold, after he released January 6th footage to Tucker Carlson and no one else.. What exactly do you think McCarthy did to earn the support of Democrats. Tool.

I’m happy they can find common ground with Matt Gaetz & the other 7 hardline conservative House Republicans when they need to. We’ll see who replaces McCarthy and how much more the Dems like working with that individual.

    You make a great point.

House Republicans should have passed the budget bill with roughly 8% reduction and put it to the Senate floor for a vote. That was their best move.

Only if they actually used their heads, instead of being idiots.

I'm curious if you think the Republican party will become more function, as opposed to less functional under someone like Jim Jordan who seems to be a favorite for the next Speakership. House Republican leadership has acted as if they didn't have only a handful of member majority working against a Senate and Whitehouse controlled by Democrats. If your only desire is to see the government shutdown by a new leader who see's that as the only recourse for not getting what they want, then so be it. That wasn't a winning proposition for Republicans the last three times they've done it however.

Though it would have practically 0 effect on me, no I don’t particularly wish for a shutdown. To answer your question, no I don’t think it will be more functional. You are also making my point…McCarthy was a RINO and a moderate. Personal feelings aside, he was practically the most willing Republican Speaker willing to wheel & deal with House Democrats. By Dems aligning with 8 House Republicans to oust him, they are likely to get a new Speaker that is far less inclined to work with them on anything moving forward. A selfish part of me that enjoys poetic justice does look forward to the bitching festival that will ensue as a result of Dems not thinking about the consequence of their actions.

But that is the problem, McCarthy spent more time placating the extremist wing of his own party and burned bridges with House Dems. There's enough moderate to near right Dems that compromise bills to see cuts and other concessions for lefty agendas likely would have seen passage despite the far left. But McCarthy didn't do that, the was so afraid of seeing himself deposed by working with the Dems he instead got nothing done and was STILL deposed for doing the right thing in the CR. I doubt the Democrats would like whomever is the next Speaker, but you're right in that they deserve whomever they get.
