I recycle because the city gives us these blue trash cans that say recycle on them.

I wish my city got into the 21st century. The garbage companies out here actually expect us to pay THEM to give us those recycling bins. And I don't just mean like an extra buck a month, oh no, the bins cost as much as the garbage service itself.
The fuck that's gonna happen.
Does recycling help when they have to use more big trucks to haul the product? What's the break even or gain point for emissions versus reclaimed product?
At my old house we recycled more than we threw away in the regular trash bin but now that I'm out in BFE recycling isn't even an option that's offered (paid or free). We compost and I still recycle but it's gathered up and taken in my trunk to a drop off point close to work.
It does help, but they said for a lot of items there is no market. Plastic from bottles, for instance, is not all created equal. Sometimes it is no longer fit to be recycled back into a bottle and different uses have to be found. There are heaps upon heaps of recycled material sitting in sotrage warehouses that nobody wants to buy because they have 0 use for.
