Lightning has killed more Americans in the last forty years than terrorism.
Along with the passage of the Endangered Species Act, the US ban on DDT is cited by scientists as a major factor in the comeback of the bald eagle (the national bird of the United States) and the peregrine falcon from near-extinction in the contiguous United States.[8][9]

And the reason climate models show 1880 - Present, and not 1840 - Present, is because in 1840, it was hotter in rural areas than it is now. Why does that matter? Because we weren't industrialized and polluting in 1840 like we are now. Not to mention the latest IPCC report completely removed the idea behind the urban heat island effect which clearly shows this is politicized science and not the alarmist, leftist, tree hugging catastrophe that everyone says it is. Be a good steward of the environment. Solar Panels for your home, hybrid cars, walk when you can, recycle (but not glass, that pollutes, we ain't running out of sand anytime soon) and for fucks sake, don't buy into the hype started by a guy that owns a private jet and a home in miami that sits at sea level and sells his channel to people from a major oil producing company.

I mean shit, you wanna talk about an environmental catastrophe. Meteors. They've killed before and they will kill again! We'd be fools to not build a massive multi-trillion dollar meteor defense system!!! Don't believe those right wing bible thumping idiots! Meteors are the greatest danger to mankind! Meteor related events have increased 100 fold in the past century with the production of steel and other metal fabrications the planet is like one big meteor magnet! We need an concerted effort to ban man-made metals because the magnetic pull of earth is increasing and with it, MORE METEORS! OMG! So lets talk about the environmentally friendly Halo ring we need to build around the planet using recycled beer cans and other materials to protect us from meteors. But we can't do it alone! We need to help of corporations and You, the taxpayer, to help subsidize the latest Haliburton planetary defensive device!
Same shit. Just as ridiculous.

There is no other tech currently that would give us comparable power for comparable cost.
MAYBE you wouldn't mind paying 10$ for a Kwh, but I sure don't.
Do we need to work on tech that can equal fossil fuels? Hell yes. Are we even remotely close? Fuck No.
There was another thread, where someone brought up a tidal power plant in South Korea. Zero Emissions, and produces decent power.
I then pointed out that to produce enough power just for Miami.. (how exactly you will use a tidal plant for Denver tho is beyond me) would cost about 25 BILLION dollars. For One City. (based on the 254 Mw Tidal plant in South Korea cost 300 Mill US, 2008 Miami summer power consumption 21,077 Mw)
America uses just under 4 Terawatts of power.
China actually uses more then us. about 4.7 Terawatts.
The Entire EU only uses 3 Terawatts.
Solar currently is even more costly.
Antelope Valley Solar Ranch
The 230 MW Antelope Valley Solar Ranch is a First Solar photovoltaic project which is under construction in the Antelope Valley area of the Western Mojave Desert,[25] which is due to be completed in 2013. The project has received a $680 million government loan guarantee.
680 Million (if on budget) for 230 MW. Think "Green" people in LA will be happy to pay 90$ per KWH?
Then there is this...
Ivanpah Solar Power Facility
The 392MW Ivanpah Solar Power Facility, located 40 miles (64 km) southwest of Las Vegas, is the world’s largest solar-thermal power plant project which became fully operational on February 13, 2014.[20] BrightSource Energy received a $1.6 billion loan guarantee from the United States Department of Energy to build the project, which will deploy 347,000 heliostat mirrors focusing solar energy on boilers located on centralized solar power towers. The project is controversial for its environmental impacts, including the elimination of some desert tortoise habitat. [21] [20] [22] Since becoming operational, dozens of dead birds have been found around the plant with singed or burnt feathers. It is believed that the system scorched the birds that flew through the intense heat surrounding the towers.
As far as Nuclear.. we should expand. But even that is a limited resource.
We currently produce more Wind power then anyone. But it's nothing compared to what we actually use.
I don't think Miami could afford that. Nor the citizens afford the cost of a company building that.
The other thing is... where exactly are you going to put enough wind turbines or solar panels in say.. PA to supply all the power needed?
Honestly.. if one more person says.. well we need to stop burning fossil fuels and start living green.. while wearing clothes, eating food and driving a car with a cell phone and computer, they should be shot. Period.
We have ways to cut back on usage though. If everyone made sure to turn off lights they weren't using or TVs they weren't watching or put on more clothes in winter instead of cranking their heater up(I'm not saying freeze to death, but really, set your heater to heat your house to say, 70 instead of 75), or hell, take the parking spot that might cause you to walk a little more instead of driving circles around a parking lot, if everyone did all that, I imagine we'd see some nice savings across the board.
Finding a more efficient source or one that is even close to being as efficient as fossil fuels is great and all, and we need it one way or another but... We can cut out unnecessary consumption and make a huge impact.
