Crazy Idea. I was reading about how Google has a secret lab called Google X where they think of solving major problem in big ways. For example millions of people die on the roads so why not have driverless cars to reduce that number?

So I was thinking... set up huge banks of cycling facilities. Pay people $100 an hour to cycle. Have those cycles hooked up to power generators. This way we can help the economy, our power efficiency, and the state of America's health all in one go.

I think you're forgetting one major thing; Google thinks up ways to solve major problems while also making a buck.

Google X projects have many inspirations and many starting points. But Mr Teller says not one of them has started from the conventional business question: "How can we make a tonne of money?" That is, he explains, because these ideas are about huge, transformative, disruptive change, not the marginal, incremental change of a conventional business.

That's cute and all but if you think Google is creating driver less cars because they are worried about people dying in automobile accidents and they aren't interested in making money well...I don't know what to tell you.

Well their stock price is pretty high. Losing millions per day would be a good way to lower it.

Something I have learned about the service industry... you will be apologizing profusely to everyone. You can't and never will win with some people. Remember the ones you do win.
