Interesting how this didn't start until Latrinsorm made a snide remark about my bugginess. So that's how he wants to play..
To reflect back because you don't read every post
Here we have Methais suggesting that living enslaved in America was better than living free in Africa. Then we get to hear just how bad the Muslim North Africans were, as though they were exactly the same people as primarily the West Africans they sold. This denies culpability to the British and Americans who imported slaves as well as misses the point that the amount of slave importation actually dwindled for quite a while (and we kept people enslaved) and was eventually banned in 1808. This means that our dearly beloved South + Florida kept people enslaved from then until 1808-1865 without any slave traders from Africa to blame it on.Originally Posted by Methais
Methais being culpable is never suggested except by you. Methais trying to pawn off the responsibility of slavery onto black and Middle Eastern people? That happened.

Actually my point was that most if not all of the black Americans running around today, or at least the ones with real slave ancestry (PROTIP: Just because someone is black doesn't necessarily mean their ancestors were slaves) either wouldn't exist today, or would be living in the exotic and tropical paradise that is Africa, which is clearly a better place to live than America and all.
I'm not trying to justify slavery at all, but people act like white people invaded Africa and kidnapped all these black people to bring back here as slaves. What do you think the percentage is of black people in America today that know how slaves came to be in America in the first place? I'd say less than 10%, but that's just a guess.
Besides, what would America be without upstanding members of our society like Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, the YOU GONNA GET RAPED guy, or Antoine Dodson?
Is it possible that if slavery never took place, people like Michael Jordan would have never been born? Obama certainly wouldn't have been elected, since white guilt votes and the race card played a hefty role in that. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would have to get real jobs, and Morgan Freeman might not be here to narrate anything into awesomeness. And who would sell us All State insurance and Jello Pudding Pops?
And most importantly, would the movie Coming to America have been made if slavery never took place? That's something I'm not willing to take a chance on. That alone was worth slavery happening for.
I accept no responsibility for the actions of the Latrinsorm of PC past from the future.Africa has been home to many world class civilizations. Just as you note that America would dramatically different had we (you, me, and Parkbandit) never engaged in the slave trade, there's no way of telling how different various regions of Africa would have been without it.Originally Posted by Methais
