The Democrats aren't interested in backing Gaetz as much as they are for helping create chaos they can blame (rightfully) on the Republicans. Then they can watch with popcorn again as it takes even longer than it did the first time to get a new Speaker in place.

While I agree with some of Gaetz & the Freedom Caucus positions on things like term limits and the budget I think he is making a mistake & putting his personal vendetta with McCarthy ahead of smart politics. The House almost passed a budget bill with roughly 8% spending cuts. Had that passed it would have forced the Senate to vote on that measure & if not passed Democrats would be the ones having to answer/justify why they are rejecting the Bill & choosing a government shutdown. Instead we are left with a 45 day CR.

McCarthy is a bit of a Rhino no doubt, but what more can Republicans really demand of him? The reality is we have Joe Biden as President & a Senate majority controlled by Democrats. In this reality I would have accepted the prior proposed House budget bill as a win. The infighting leaves Republicans in a weaker position. Democrats are unified and fall in line when they need to, and this is par for the course with the Republican Party.

100% correct, republicans eat their own while dems might not love they guy they vote for but it beats the other sides guy. You would think after all these years idiots like Gaetz and his idiot friends would clue in, but he is in a solid red district so he relishes bringing his personal vendetta to congress and burning it all down and knowing he will be reelected. He is apparently making waves that he wants to run for governor, he would get crushed, even though Florida is fairly red, it is not THAT red.

MAGA Republicans versus Mainstream Republicans, your party has created these people and their lunatic, disruptive behaviors, so why would you be surprised when you help vote them in office. These Trump darlings are just doing what you put them into office to do, disrupt.

DeSantis won his last election by 20 points.. but that's because he was extremely popular in 2022 due to Covid.. and he was going against Charlie Crist who is an extremely weak "Democrat" who everyone dislikes.

It'll be interesting to see how Florida goes on the next election. I believe we've moved further right than we have been in the past, but if you get a decent Democrat and a weak Republican... could make for a nailbiter.

The world today is a radically different world than it was in 1980. The pace of technological change today vs when Reagan was president is exponentially greater year over year. It's why we get Senate hearing on TikTok and Google where they're asking about how their phone works or their personal WiFi or random questions about their kids instead of important questions. I was an infant for Reagan but even inf my life the rate of change his hard to fathom so expecting someone who's an octogenarian to be able to keep up is unlikely. Not that they don't have a role in advising and relaying their historical context to a complex system of rules and measures but I think at a certain point there needs to be an understanding that people who don't keep up or can't keep up can't really govern a world they don't understand.

Pretty funny to hear Boebert of Colorado voting against the vacation motion. Speaker saved her ass after she was caught on video vaping, being drunk and disorderly, and fondling a male companion that wasn't her husband at a musical production.

And the Gaetz motion passes, the Office of the Speaker is vacant. Republican infighting makes history in removing McCarthy.

In before "I wouldn't expect someone as racist simple minded as you to be able to understand that he was just trying to get to the vote on time, and not knowing that pulling the fire alarm would trigger the fire alarm is a common mistake that literally anyone could make."
