Default Computer died, no Dreavenings until I can get it fixed

So my computer decided to stop working earlier today. I’m hoping it’s just the power supply and I’ve already ordered a new one that will supposedly be here tomorrow, but I have my doubts on that.

I’m just hoping it is the power supply and it’s not that everything in my computer fried somehow. The last time I backed up my lich folder was a few weeks ago so I’m gonna lose some Dreavening stats for everyone if the hard drive did fail, not to mention other changes I have made to various Dreavening related scripts in that time I have also been working a lot on a new hunting script so my guys can all hunt together instead of individually and that for sure hasn’t been backed up at all so that’s gonna be fun if I have to redo all that again.

In any case if the power supply comes tomorrow and that fixes everything then Dreavenings tomorrow. If it’s not the power supply then I’ll probably just buy another computer so that will be a week or two or more for that.

    What specifically is it doing?

Also unless the hard drive is just fucked, you should be able to back all that up. Which you should always have a copy of your GS folders on Dropbox or something.

Surely you didn't store all that data on your OS drive, and have a separate data drive for in case you have to wipe your system, right?

    RIGHT?????????????????????????????

It won’t power on at all, pushing the power button does nothing. It just turned off by itself earlier today and hasn’t worked since.

I have an OS drive and the Lich folder is on a separate hard drive. I would regularly back up the Lich folder to a thumb drive but it’s been a few weeks at this point. Really that’s the main thing I’m worried about because I don’t really keep much on this computer, I mostly just use it to play games. Not looking forward to have to do all of that coding again if the hard drive is gone.

When you lick the PSU, do you taste electricity?

Then the problem isn't the PSU. There might be a clog in the outlet, try loosening it with a fork.

Having worked a tech help desk job for almost 5 years....I need to ask the obvious and I only ask these questions because people I've spoken with just don't get it, at all....anything, not even the idea that computers need power to run.

(OMG. I feel for you and the problem you're having, but you just made so many bad call memories come rushing back to me that I'm just laughing at all the stupid stuff people do and don't understand about computers. None of these questions here are directed at you....they're just from me reminiscing about my old job.)

The room your computer is in, does everything else have power? Do the lights in the room work?
(seriously, I've had people trying to trouble shoot a computer issue and after going all the trouble shooting steps and then asking them to try plugging the computer into another outlet, they tell me they need to get a flash light because the lights aren't working in that one room - they work in every other room in the building, but not the one the computer is in).

Is your computer plugged into a surge protector? If so, do you have anything else plugged into the surge protector and are those things getting power?
(Yes, people sometimes bump the on/off switch on a surge protector and don't realize it).

Do you know where the power button is located on the tower?
    No? Okay...
Do you know what the tower looks like?
    No? Okay....
Do you see the mouse and keyboard?
    Yes? Good....
Follow the cable from the mouse or keyboard and see where it goes and what it plugs into....
The keyboard and mouse are wireless....
(for fucks sake! how fucking dumb is this person that they can't find the computer tower!)

Me: Thanks for holding, what is the problem you're experiecing?
Customer: I installed the new RAM you shipped me and my computer stopped working.
Me: Okay, give me a moment and I'll pull up your account and check the work orders here.... Yes, I see we shipped a 4GB stick of DDR2 memory at your request. So you say you installed the RAM and now they computer won't start?
Customer: Yes, I installed the RAM and my computer turned off and now it won't turn back on.
Me: Okay, you installed the RAM and the computer powered off?
Customer: Yes, and now it won't turn back on.
Me: Okay. I just want to make sure I get my notes entered into the ticket here correctly. You got the new stick of RAM. You removed the side of the panel on the tower and installed the RAM while the computer was powered on?
Customer: Yes. And when I put the new stick of RAM in the computer powered off. I tried taking out the stick of RAM and the computer still won't power on.
(I had to mute my phone as I couldn't stop laughing....every one else on the help desk got one hell of a laugh out of the guy installing RAM while the computer was still on)
I had to explain to the customer that he shorted out his computer and I then had to spend the next 3 hours getting an old piece of this system up and running and online and on the network before I could remote in, transfer over necessary files to install the server program again....thankfully all the databases were being backed up on the registers at the store (like the software was designed to do) so I could get them operational again before they opened for business.

Hopefully a new PSU is all you need. I do know that when my younger brother's shitty PSU on a computer of his years ago died it took the MB, CPU and RAM with it. The GPU and HDD were spared.

Have you called Backlash yet? I'm sure he would suggest more ventilation via drilling holes in the case.

Make sure to ask for recommendations on computers from the PC, and then just go grab one from BestBuy.
