I've searched a little and I can't find him promising that. I see him saying that he thought he could, and that he thought he could do it in eight years, but haven't yet found a quote of him promising that. Anyone have a link to a quote where he promises it? Was it in a tweet maybe?

Fact is he's done very little to address it... in fact, he's exacerbated it by passing the last 2 budgets that added to the debt.

My biggest problem with this is the ridiculous waste at a federal level. We spend more on defense than the next 10 countries combined, some of which are actively involved in multiple conflicts worldwide.

We can literally cut 100% of military spending from the budget, and still being running at a deficit. Military spending isn't the whole problem, it's just a small part of it.

Oh you can't just get it from there, and by no means would it make any sense to cut it that deeply. Trump's plan was to fix all of our trade issues which would then reduce debt. So far that's lead to bailouts and more debt

Politifact says this: In a March 31, 2016, interview with the Washington Post, Donald Trump promised to eliminate the United States' $19 trillion in debt in eight years.

In that interview with the WP, Trump actually says this:

DT: We’re a debtor nation. We’ve got to get rid of — I talked about bubble. We’ve got to get rid of the $19 trillion in debt.

WP: How long would that take?

DT: I think I could do it fairly quickly, because of the fact the numbers . . . .

WP: What’s fairly quickly?

DT: Well, I would say over a period of eight years. And I’ll tell you why.

I don't see him promising anything here. I see him saying that he thinks he could do something and then the media saying, "OMGOMGOMGOMG TRUMP JUST PROMISED TO ELIMINATE THE US DEBT IN 8 YEARS OMGOMGOMG". Unless there are other interviews or tweets to that effect?
