Biden's inflation economy: inflation hits 40 year high

Experts were expecting the official inflation report to show a 7.3% rise in inflation in January. Turns out it the number was 7.5% for January, the highest rise in inflation in 40 years.

So if you're jumping for joy because "Biden" got you a 3% raise last year, guess what? You can thank Biden for effectively lowering your pay for the rest of your life.

Teenagers who were excited because that job at McDonald's was "only" offering 12 dollars an hour before Biden and now they are offering 13 dollars an hour?! Wow! Thanks, Biden! Except wait, after Bidenomics kicks in, you're effectively only earning about $12.10 an hour. Thanks for the dime, Biden!

And the best part is the Bidenomics inflation train shows NO signs of slowing down! If you were earning 50k a year under mean ol' Trump, your purchasing power is effectively 46,250 now under Biden. If Bidenomics keeps up at this rate and we see yet another 7.5% increase next year (or even higher! Who knows what miracles Biden can work?!), then that means this time next year your purchasing power would be 42,781 dollars a year. Biden essentially stole 7200 dollars (14.4% of your yearly income) a year from you, only in his first 2 years in office!

Is there anything this man can't do?!

Everything was put into motion for them and they're sticking with leaving about 6 months early. One driver has his last day tomorrow and the other driver at the end of March.

Now we're in a bind trying to find replacement drivers and until we do, we're left being dependent on third party companies to help us ship material. If replacement drivers can't be found this could impact the bottom line because it'll end up costing more day after day using a third party logistic companies....so that means we might have to increase pricing to customers by increasing their overall cost for material or tacking on a flat delivery fee to help offset our increased shipping costs.

I diversify my investments, but I prefer tangible assets like real estate & precious metals. (And of course my 401k but I just contribute and let the plan do it’s thing.)

Friends and family thought I was completely nuts when I bought 50,000 rounds of 7.62x39 back in 2019 for $0.14 a round. I sold half of it in 2020 & 2021. I can go shooting anytime I want basically for free, and it also funded more firearms to add to my growing collection / hobby.

It's no coincidence that inflation hit a 40 year high at the same time GDP growth hit a 40 year high. With that much growth so quickly after the anemic production and distribution during the 2020 recession, inflation was inevitable. The current inflation appears to be healthy inflation -- a side effect of extremely high economic growth. It's like being out of breath after jogging.

Unhealthy inflation results from a loss of faith in the stability of money, which can be caused just by the public's expectation of high inflation. It's like being out of breath from walking to the mailbox at the end of your driveway.

Healthy inflation can quickly morph into unhealthy inflation if the public's expectations of continued inflation change.

If the Fed threads the needle of tamping down economic demand while avoiding excessively increasing public fear of inflation, then Jerome Powell should get a medal. Otherwise, we'll have to end inflation as we always do, by raising interest rates until we have a prolonged recession.

1. Growth is normally measured period-over-period. You can measure it from the peak or trough of the previous business cycle if you want, but your numbers will not match the numbers that economists normally use.

2. During the 2020 recession, the United States experienced deflation. Measuring inflation period-over-period, as the 40-year high number was measured, means measuring from the deflated numbers produced by the 2020 recession, which makes the current inflation numbers higher than they would be if measured from the peak of the economic cycle before the 2020 recession. Doesn't change the fact, people claiming Biden is helping "grow" the economy isn't really honest... just saying - "go back to living" was going to "grow" the economy. No policies, or actions, I've seen so far have really helped businesses. I've seen some lip service, some bills that spread some $ around as kickbacks, but not really in the regulations passed to promote investment and "growth".

Maybe they'll wake up and realize, if they don't do shit and stay out of the way, things would actually "grow". Here's to hoping.

For those that claim the Infrastructure Bill... we'll see how that plays out.

The US (64.5) is the only country that doesn't seem to follow the trend as far as vaccination rates and inflation; that being said, the US also has a larger population in Florida than most of those countries have in total.

What tends to really give me pause however is all the US companies (Disney, Exxon, etc) that are recording record profits. If inflation was a main driver in cost increase due to policy, than these companies would have relatively stable profits.

Looking at vaccination vs inflation a little deeper, there seems to be a pretty straightforward line between 63% rates and inflation 5.8% and lower, again with the US being the only real outlier.

Here are two of the sneaky ways I have noticed food companies charging a lore more for their products without raising their prices too much.

I buy cabbage at Sam's Club. Three large heads came in a pack. Not only has the price increased slightly, but the heads of cabbage are much smaller, probably around 30% smaller, AND the package only comes with 2 heads of cabbage instead of 3. They even use the exact same packaging as before that clearly states it's a package of THREE heads of cabbage.

My nacho lunchables, one of the best inventions of mankind, practically give you no cheese to dip your chips with anymore! Oh sure you get cheese, but it's probably about 20% of what you used to get. But of course they also raised their prices.

And keep in mind when the US calculates inflation they just go by direct dollar numbers, they don't compare the fact that, for instance my cabbage example, that we are getting less than half the food we were before.

There are other much more sneaky ways companies do this shit that 99% of people would never even notice.

For example that 18 ounce box of cereal you like might only be 17.9 ounces in a couple of months, then 17.8 ounces a couple of months after that. A change so small you wouldn't really even notice it unless you look at the tiny text along the box which states how much the cereal weighs and you remembered how much cereal was in there last time.

The crazy part is the US has PLENTY of energy! We have so much energy in this country we could easily meet all of our needs and start selling our excess energy to Europe. But instead Democrats are demonizing our energy production and shackling them with more costly regulations instead of easing up on regulations and maybe even giving them a tax break on the condition they pump out more energy.

Meanwhile the CEO of Exxon Mobil in January just pointed out they have no intention of increasing production and instead will support maintaining production levels to keep oil prices high. It's great to know that Republicans have no concept of governments control over the oil company's failure to release oil. That means if President Biden were to nationalize the oil and gas sector as they're clearly advocating, then we might see results.

We're still having issues finding people to fill spots at my work and the company is paying more than ever to fill these spots. Nearly all the positions have gone up anywhere from $2-5 over the past 12 months and that's just for the basic entry positions in the warehouse. * Other local sit down restaurants that offered delivery don't always have delivery due to lack of employees and sometimes they struggle to have enough people to run the kitchen and wait staff to keep the place going properly.
* Truck companies are struggling to find drivers. LTL shipments, it can take 2-3 days once a pickup request is put in before we see the trucks show up for pickups. When I ask the drivers if they're busy, they always say yes, but then they always say they can't find drivers to fill spots. One driver said as his place he works for, they have dozens of trucks and trailers just sitting in their lots because they can't get people in to work. These places aren't long haul drivers either, they're local drivers for the Twin Cities and surrounding areas. You'd come in work 8-10 hours days (some even have 4 day work weeks) and have the weekends off, you're not driving across country and away from home for days or weeks at a time.....but people don't want to do these jobs.

I don't know where all the people are going for work, but they're not all flocking back to their previous jobs, even if pay has been increased. So, it makes me wonder where did they go (Thanos didn't snap his fingers, did he?) and if they're not working, then how are they surviving? I think part of the problem was the lockdowns and forced mandates that scared people into an early retirement. For example, at my work, we have two truck drivers that are retiring early. They decided to pull the plug early instead of working a couple of more years once Biden announced the shot mandates. They said screw it and put in their retirement paperwork. One driver retired about 2 months ago and the second driver's last day is the end of this month. If you follow their flowchart and read their definitions, you'll see that people who have searched for a job in the last four weeks are counted as unemployed. The economy is in full swing and anyone who wants to work, can. Gas prices are playing an oversized roll in overall inflation, but I would honestly like to see the inflation numbers broken down per region. Only because employers with nationwide presences introducing $14-$15 hour jobs to areas with minimum wages half that are overheating some of those economies.

Bill Clinton's success as a President far outweigh his failings in the role, notwithstanding his adultery, which is a beast of it's own that makes him abhorrent. No, American corporations don't have carte blanch to pass on their tax costs or other expenses, because the willingness of consumers to buy from competitors negates the full pass through. If corporations see higher costs and in turn choose to expand less, hire less, then that will have a blunting effect on inflation. Remember, through companies like Walmart, Amazon, Ebay, Americans have access to the entire world of production.

You can tell just how much bipartisan support there was, what with all the negotiating Mitch McConnell refused to participate in. $1.9 trillion had a third dedicated to infrastructure buildout, electronic vehicle incentives and charging stations, both of which would address inflation by reducing our dependence on oil in the long run. A non-starter to Republicans. Another $213 billion to make homes more efficient, build more affordable housing, both of which address housing inflation as well! Maybe it was $45 billion to remove lead pipes universally or $16 billion to stop gas leaks by plugging defunct wells that really hurt Republican fee fees.

Really, it's probably the unions provisions, elder care and paying for it by rolling back the deficit exploding 21% effective corporate tax rate that really killed it for Republicans. So much so they absolutely refused to negotiate. Or, maybe they just wanted to deny Biden and through him the American people any relief?

Excellent! I've been trying to get people to say what metric should be used to measure presidential performance. Most people shy away from committing to anything. The labor force participation rate has been steadily increasing. It's not back to where it was before the pandemic, but it's getting close. Before the pandemic, it was 63.4%. As of the beginning of this month, it was back to 62.4%. You can see it charted here. Historically, labor force participation has lagged the economic recovery by about 9 months.

Also eff Dallas county. We just got our tax assessment property valuations and they raised both our residence and one investment property (rental) disproportionately. At least I can fight that and will.

In Texas we don’t have a state income tax, but they make up for it in property taxes. Well maybe not totally make up for it compared to NY, but our property taxes are getting ridiculous.

Doesn't really make up for it. Even though TX is pretty high at 1.8%, so is NJ, NY, IL, CT, PA, etc.. plus you make up for it with a lower average home prices.

Thankfully, I live in the Free State of Florida, where property tax is .89% and no state income tax.

Word. My sister lives in Jacksonville. Florida is a great free state to live in.

While lower average home prices are indeed the case at the state level, Dallas specifically is not so much anymore. Everybody and their mom seems to be trying to move here and it’s driven property values way up especially the last 5 or so years. When you drive around the city you would think we’re right on the border of Comufornia based on the amount of out of state license plates.

Went through my tax stuff a couple weekends ago. Every year we the wife and I see a small amount ($100-200) come back from Federal, but we always have to pay in around $500-800 to state.

I also know that my property taxes took a big jump this year - up almost $1000 due to a fucking levy that passed for pissing away more money to the public schools.....coming from a district where 5-6 years ago the superintendent was using public funds for his own personal needs and some how, some way, the district ended up having millions of dollars in a budget deficit that couldn't be accounted for that same year. In the end, the reason for the giant deficit was "an accounting error".

There are some 14,000+ households in the city I live in and the levy has everyone paying at least $50 more a month in property taxes and upwards of $150, depending on your home value. That means around $14million extra in property taxes will be collected this year that's supposed to go towards the public schools. I guess we see what happens from here on out.
