I agree the defenseless receiver rule is bullshit, but not as bullshit as the quarterback rules have been.

While the rulebook may claim any helmet to helmet is "forbidden", the game is entirely too fast to call it against a running back - and they will only call if it the defender launches off the ground at them. The rule "update" or "clarification" was simply to protect the quarterback and receiver.

There were a lot of bullshit quarterback calls this year. An inadvertent hand came down on a helmet...a defensive lineman who is on the ground going for the sack...deemed too low of a hit.
