Only if you consider having to take notes by hand a penalty.
If there are better ways that are able to be used but denied to you because you're not "special" I'd say that is a penalty wouldn't you? You're being penalized for not being "special".
So in other words if someone is at a disadvantage they just have to suck it up because those that are capable will have their feelings hurt for. Not everyone is created equal and not everyone needs to be treated the same exact way, this isn't China you dirty commie.
First off, fuck your teacher for that. He can eat shit and die for breaking confidentiality so casually, and especially in front of the entire class like that.
IQ has nothing to do with retention, absorption and the ability to read and write accurate notes. Its not like they are coddling her and pushing her through when she is incapable. She isn't even taking advantage of extra test time. The lecture provides information, which is NOT expected to be retained and memorized immediately (thats why you take notes in the first place). She needs a technological accessory to record this information in a efficient and useful manner, so that she can then study and memorize the notes on HER time, just like everyone else.
So she asks a lot of questions. The teacher said "ask questions" and then teased her for it. What a cunt-waffle.
What is she supposed to do? Realize she has a disadvantage that will be difficult to cope with without an "advantage", and then just give up and live off the government forever? Its the easiest thing in the world to do. Kudos for trying to do the most you can, rather than just giving up.
I'm not going to disagree that there is a lot of truth in this statement, but saying "school is for learning how to learn" doesn't automatically negate the handicap she has to contend with. She is automatically on an uneven playing field, and yes, she can learn techniques to cope and adapt to hopefully even things out, but you can't just "learn" your way out of a learning disability. Thats like saying that if you just exercise enough, you can overcome multiple sclerosis, and that needing technological assistance is just proof that you aren't trying hard enough and/or aren't good enough.
Yes, the teacher is a dick for not letting other people use laptops. He sounds like a narrow-minded and stubborn individual. He SHOULD let everyone use one, but thats a problem on him, not necessarily the institution or someone with a handicap. But in that class, he does not allow it. Fortunately, the school forced him to do so (he probably called her out on it like that because he is bitter). The alternative is that she is not allowed, and may be unable to successfully complete the course due to a lack of adequate notes.
You have the advantage of not being a cripple (anymore) you hill tumbling buffoon.
You mean except where they are right?Just live everyone else except not at all like everyone else.....Quote:

On that I agree.Quote:

So her only 2 options are get an advantage or be a leech off of the government. That is good to know.Quote:

I'm just curious what would have been acceptable for him to say? I'm not being a smart ass here, I'm genuinely curious. He can't just say "No one can bring laptops to class, except Victoria" and leave it at that, can you imagine the rumors that would start flying? Or if he just said no laptops period then everyone sees you break out a laptop and figure it's okay so they too get their laptop out?
I would have outed you too. Sorry but your temporary embarrassment would be much more acceptable than a roomful of students resentful over the perceived preferential treatment one student receives.
I have not read further than your post so if someone already pointed that out...huzzah.
