He has butted heads with them a few times, they kind of have a "Treaty". They are probably the only ones that can really rein him in. Fucking with their money is likely a way to do it, but even forbes is saying the current sanctions will only have a modest hit to the Russian economy. Inflation is going to happen a lot, but rich people can weather that easily enough.Quote:

Some theories I read basically stated the oligarchs wanted this war simply to enrich themselves to get around the current sanctions they already had. Basically sell Russian gasoline in Ukraine at a markup.
Granted that strategy would work if their army wasn't straight out of the 1980s. It's strangely funny to see all the videos popping up on YouTube of civilians effectively stealing Russian equipment.
In a few days the Russian military will probably be given the green light to go ahead and target civilians. Right now they are probably trying to avoid civilian casualties because that's largely frowned upon in modern warfare, but I'm thinking Putin is getting pretty desperate here.
Russia could probably topple Ukraine in a couple of days if they didn't care about civilian casualties.
The Russian army hasn't had to worry about logistics in decades. A lot of them had no idea what they were doing due to no experience, basically growing pains issues. They may have planned to attack faster and seize Ukrainian supplies too, and that didn't pan out. Either way, they abandoned a lot of stuff. That is a primary difference between the US military and them, we can create a fucking incredible logistics train out of nowhere.Quote:
