Saw them last night with Cold at the House of Blues in New Orleans. Fantastic show! These guys are the real deal. Small venue so you would have been hard-pressed to be more than 100 feet from the stage. They really had a good time with the crowd as well. If you like their music, I'd definitely recommend going to one of their shows. Otherwise, you're really missing out.

Because I finally got around to hauling the grandfather's old custom made turntable and stereo (ca. 1971) to my apartment (finally because it's giant and oak and I live upstairs) and my parents bestowed upon me their entire accumulated library of vinyl's representing what two hippies in living in a college town in the seventies are capable of, I've been listening to just about everything. Going through the first crate of albums this morning, I pulled out the some Jimmy Cliff, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, the Stones, the Band, Big Brother and Holding Company, Beethoven, Fleetwood Mac, Paul Butterfield Blues band...and that's just a handful of the STANDOUTs from the first like 10% of the first of five crates of records.
Suffice to say, I am going to be having a shit ton of fun listening to a crap ton of music, about 99% of which I haven't even looked through yet (thus have no idea what other gems I'll pull out of there). I predict the next few weeks will be full of really excellent music.
And wtf, these vinyls are all still in flawless condition, whereas my CD collection from high school and college contain probably a majority of disks that are unlistenable they are so damaged. Fuck CDs.
Oh...and right now atm, I have on "Rock of Ages," a two album live show by the Band in concert in the early 70's.

I made a bet with one of my buddies, that I could learn all Megadeth, before he could learn all Dethklok (see 'Metalocalypse'). We only bet a dollar, and it's completely unfair (2 Dethklok albums, I think 11 megadeth albums?) But I've been able to practice a SHITLOAD, due to not working for over 2 years. If you like intricate melodic phrasing, awesome lyrics, and AMAZING energy, try out Megadeth. Read the lyrics while you listen, they are intelligent, well structured, and rocking. Get started with 'Lucretia'. (or Anything off 'Rust in Peace')
Make him learn all of Skwisgaar Skwigelf's parts.
The bet DOES include solos, But the lead guitar from Dethklok isn't nearly as tough as Megadeth. It's bad ass, don't get me wrong, and no easy task to learn it all. Much more 'sweep picking' in Dethklok solos, which IMO, is a good deal easier to master than the picking techniques used by the various Megadeth Guitarists.Quote:
