Elothrai
Deep honey, ginger and cream swirl and bleed into one another creating a whirlpool of hues in the heart of this coin-sized agate. Framed and held in place by a thin gold chain, its rich hue enhances the traces of bright gold that dance throughout the oval cabochon's smooth surface.
I tried to make it to match the cabochon that I received from another.

Tight knit swirls of ginger, gold, and honey create spiral vortices that dance across the surface of the cabochon and are reminiscent of a whirlpool. Etched at the heart of the stone is a nautilus shell, its tubular length accented by the curving bands. A braided cord of bronze, gold, and ginger silk is looped through a bronze circle set into the back of the piece, while a tiny missive is etched just beneath.

Tunic
Slits from waist to hem and wide, fluidly draping sleeves accommodate for ease movement in this garment. Tone-on-tone lotus embroidery and delicately looped honey silk frogs fasten diagonally from the low-collar to just below the right breast, adding simple, but elegant ornamentation to the utilitarian tunic.

Lacquered a stark white, the tall birch haft is ornamented with gold flourishes that wind their way up toward three blades of expertly folded steel. The center blade is nearly two hands'-lengths and tapers to a wicked point, while the side blades sash its base, curving upward to form a crescent of gleaming metal. A ribbon of ivory silk adorns the weapon's joint, tied off to leave a fluttering streamer. Braided into the ribbon's center is a rectangular blue lace agate talisman etched with Erithian runes. A faint aura of holy light radiates from the magari-yari.

The hat's one of the ones from the 2004 Dhu runs. I'm going to see if I can get the feather altered. Tunic is pinworn and holds VLA, yay!
leggings: The kidskin is dyed such a deep black that it lends the smooth fabric a subtle violet sheen, akin to a raven's feather. Small silver crescents cap the ends of the ivory cording woven through onyx grommets along each leg, allowing the garment to be tightened around the legs for a snug fit.

Cuff: The heavy cuff is sectioned into four jeweled scenes. The first is a spider formed of garnet shards, nestled within a web of silvery veniom. The next features slivers of tigerfang crystal resembling a clenched fist, edged with sanguine eahnor. Strips of near-translucent onyx create the hazy image of a figure in shadow against the backdrop of silver for the third scene, and the final segment holds tiles of green jade inset into a lifelike raven, its head tilted as if gazing into the distance.

The most vivid colors in the spectrum have been used in this piece. Threaded on a chaotic web-work of silver filament, no two gems are of the same color, or cut. Some stones are faceted, others cabochon, and some are just left in their rough natural form. None bear a typical shape; either obtusely or acutely angled on various sides to create an unusual fit for the other surrounding stones in this puzzle of a neckband.
I really loved the peridot on your gown, it's so underused, and I just loved that outfit. I was checking out the choker but I'm so glad you showed it off..it's great.

Choker: The choker is nothing more than a thumb-wide piece of black velvet designed to be worn snugly around the neck. A single silver hook and eye closure adorns the back, the muted silver nearly disappearing in the embrace of the plush fabric.
Cloak: Sewn of fine black silk, this extravagant cloak is layered and gathered several times. The folds are held together by fine silver points, each dotted with a piece of round cut alabaster.

Designed to rest just at the hollow of the throat, the link supports a single opaline moonstone teardrop.
Hairsticks: Five slender sticks of eahnor allow firm support to any length of hair and taper to a sharp point to pass easily through elaborate styles. Golden thorned vines slither up the length of the eahnor to reach the intricately carved ruby rose cap, gold touching the petals to define each.

The fabric of this scarf is woven of fine linen. Though simple in design the craftswoman who made this was an artist in her own right. The copper beading takes on an intricate pattern, at first seemingly random, and yet the longer it is considered the more complex and ordered it becomes.

This fine kit is simply constructed of birch that's polished to a fine luster. The edges of the kit are finished in bronze detailing a fine elliptical pattern.
The headscarf show was done by a merchant on the wavedancer.

A pattern of deep purple whorls along the flowing skirts is alternated with tumbling leaves and teardrop-shaped petals.
The bliaut was a present from Belnia, and was made by Chisma. Everything else has been seen before at one point or another. :)

Eel Skin hat- The eel skin is naturally oily and resists any moisture, its surface gleaming with the protection. The brim is wide, though it flops somewhat, and the top appears to be folded slightly upon itself as the hat lacks much in the way of structure and support.
A Silver Gryphon Talisman- The image of a gryphon takes up the whole of the piece. The wings of the mighty bird are outstretched wide and the head is cast upward in a gallant pose. Caught in the talons of the avian creature are a series of rubies and a small, silver sword.
A Battle Ravaged Wool Warcloak- Worsted wool falls to the shin in a smooth curtain, draping from a pin of crossed claidhmores, which gathers the cloak at the right shoulder. Each miniature weapon bears a dragon's-tear diamond in its pommel, and is crafted of blue-tinged mithril. The gleaming metal stands out against the stony grey wool of the cloak, and the fabric itself bears no adornment aside from a smattering of tiny tears, frays and scorch marks that bespeak the battles it has seen.
a bloodstained leather war harness- This piece is nothing exquisite, an obvious hallmark of Krolvin craftsmanship. Made from common leathers, it is apparent that this piece has one purpose - to carry instruments of war. Stained with blood from battles past, it is truly an unattractive accessory.
A silver leather sack- This austere blackened silver leather sack is touched at the seams with royal blue. The bag is fastoned modestly with a small steel ring at the top. A large 'M' is stamped into the side of the sack.
a timeworn travellers backpack- Composed of cracked, faded leather, the pack shows the true sign of its age. A silver buckle with a solitary ruby is the only color and sign of life this item has to offer. Practical in every way, the pack features a braided strap of leather running from the top to the bottom, allowing the owner to wear it over their shoulder. On the front, and barely visible through the cracks, is a stylized M.
an aged bone raiding horn- Worn and darkened by the passing of years, pale bone comprises the horn. Though smooth, it carries but a dull finish, stained throughout with spots of dried gore and grime. A small hole adorns one side as it curves to a fine point, forming a mouthpiece. Circling the length of the horn is jagged script interspersed around bloody scrimshawed images of raiding parties. A thin braided rope of twined hemp suggests that the grim instrument can be worn about the waist.

A blue tinged mithril anklet- Fashioned for wear around the ankle, the piece of magical jewelry has obviously been neglected. Small scuffs and scratches on the surface create tiny peaks and valleys of mithril, yet the natural bluish tint of the metal remains strong. A compartment in the middle is surrounded by tiny rubies that shimmer in any available light.
some scaled leather combat boots- These boots have clearly seen quite a bit of terrain. The soles are peeling around the edges, several grommets are missing, and the laces are frayed. While they are certainly nothing to look at, they appear well broken-in and even reasonably comfortable. The heel of the right boot is emblazoned with the words "Walk With Kai," in the common language.

The most noticeable feature about the hat is the wide brim which has been curved and narrowed slightly in the front, fashioned to hang slightly low and help conceal ones eyes. A small silk tag is pinned to the inside of the hat which reads, "The Legend."
The hat doesn't exactly go, but she doesn't care. It's the owner's alter, but she had the last line added by Dreltin yesterday, and anyone who knows the hat's owner should know why... :D

Two vultite chains extend from the cap, each one suspending a wickedly-spiked ball. A perfectly shaped bloodjewel teardrop is inset into the haft to secure the lanyards of leather in place. Two thick metal rods are attached to the handle of the star. They are angled so that they lie parallel to one another, against the length of the weapon. Tightly coiled steel springs are clearly visible beneath the rods. The springs appear to be in absolutely perfect condition. You also notice a small enchanter's mark.

Cloak ( Consolation cloak ) : A layer of raw silk lines the interior of the elegant cloak from the deeply-cowled hood to the floor-length hem. Tailored for a large frame, the cloak is comprised of supple, impeccably brushed twilight silver suede with ebony stitching along the seams. Two narrow pleats adorn the middle of the seam across the back to give the garment flare and a row of silver-set obsidian buttons fasten the cloak from mid-chest to hem.
Doublet ( Thanks Jesae ) : Patterned with down-filled diamond stitching, the garment is sufficiently girthed to help lessen the burden of wearing heavy armor. Rich cordovan strapping is dispersed at the necessary arming points to attach the armor to the doublet in times of wear. An eahnor-threaded image of a modwir tree branched out under a cresent moon nestles over the right breast.
Carryall's been seen and the pants are a long done at the caravan. This outfit is centered around a new suit of armor that is incredibly ugly that I don't even show it. Bear with me as it's slowly weaned into awesomeness.

The only exception to the pattern is a small rendition of a sovyn flower.

Phoenix tattoo : Inked in brilliant shades of gold and deep crimson, an exquisitely detailed phoneix soars in delicate motion, her plummage slightly ruffled by the wind as she dives through the sky. Trailing behind her, veins of fire and ash illuminate her wake, the flames seemingly chasing her with splintering bright orange, dark carmine, and vibrant yellow veins of light.

Carefully concealed underneath the scales, tiny matching vaalin grommets allow the corset to be conspicuously laced from the back with white suede cords.

Designed to conceal the face, this mask is made of a fine, breathable silk. Delicate black threadwork reinforces the edges and allows for a secure knot in the back.

This tiny basket has been woven with wires of imflass making it both light and shiny. Padding of pure white rolton fur is partially covered with soft brown deer skin on the straps and back of the basket. Several items can be seen, but not identified, through the top of the mesh, but the mesh tightens up as it gets closer to the bottom of the basket.

A pair of red silk-wrapped black fel scabbards hangs from the leather belt. The supple leather is dyed a black and lightly abraised, leaving its surface dull. Thin eahnor plates are evenly spaced along its length, each bearing the same etched line pattern. A pair of crossed sais is etched into the surface of the belt's steel buckle.

Crafted from fine leather and dyed a deep black, these pants are been tailored to an exacting fit. The legs of the pants have been treated with oil and look to be quite supple, lending to easy flexibility despite the heavy construction. A simple silver infinity symbol button at the waist secure the pants closed.

Stiff, fire hardened leather protect the wearer's feet from all but the most determined rock on the outside, while the inside is padded with a thick cotton lining. A polished vultite cap protects the wearer's toes, while thick black bootstraps provide an easy grip for pulling on the boots.

The high collar is clasped with a slender platinum chain that suspends a single indigo crescent, and a lining of ebon satin adds weight to the garment while continuing the theme of contrasting hues.

The fluidity of the fabric allows the robe to mold the wearer's silhouette, and when the material is in motion, it creates an illusion akin to the appearance of softly falling rain.
Slippers: Mimicking the hue of windblown leaves on water, the fine silk of these slippers is faintly iridescent in nature. Supple ebon leather, burnished unevenly with lustrous metallic dye, presents the illusion of tarnished silver as the base material for this suit of armor, tailored to fit like a second skin. Adjustable cross-lacing runs through silver eyelets down to the small of the back with no other buckles or lacing visible to the eye, relying on clean lines for aesthetics. At first glance the wide band of silver seems to be an innocuous piece of jewelry. Veins of malachite and jet-black obsidian have been inlaid into the smooth surface, adding artistic streaks of intrinsic darkness which hint at the more underlying sinister aspects of the cuff. Lining the interior are rows of tiny vicious inward barbs, each configured so as to leave the impression on the skin of having worn a thorny vine.
The cuff bears a small circular slot which looks like it would fit a gold ring.

No one is picking them apart. They are good, what I would say is, wearing so many obscure termed items that everyday people are not going to know, is in fact probably going to make them skip over you. I would suggest one or two uniquely phrased items per outfit, that's what I do...because then said item stands out.Quote:

As the original comment about the obscurity of correct terms, I wanted to say that I wasn't trying to pick apart your alters. Although that IS something you should expect on these boards if you didn't already.
Mostly it was just a comment on an issue that all fashionistas have had to deal with at one point or another. Do we choose what is correct or what is understandable by the greater percentage of the population? Even then, what is understandable isn't always wrong.
Really, it comes down to whether or not one made the alteration to be seen. If they're court clothes, I would guess that's a yes. When you want to be seen with a certain item, in certain clothes, with a certain look, you need to be sure that those who look will understand. Otherwise, it will give the point a complete miss.
For myself, when I was playing, I picked a middle ground. I picked words that I knew the other fashionistas (who pretty much all post on here) would understand even if the rest of the population with their boots on their hands wouldn't.
The words you chose aren't readily understandable to even most of the people who make it their business to dress correctly and well. Even I had to look up botews and siglatoun. Most won't put forth that effort and it's something all of those who care just have to accept, eventually.

It's all been seen before relatively recently, but I :heart: the hairjewels and choker especially.
Hairjewels: Several dark, deep purple prismatic spears radiate outward from a central point in each hairjewel to form this crown-like collection of amethyst crystals. Each spear shows the deepest color in its interior, fading gradually to clear crystal on the outer edges. A setting of silver encases the jewels, with delicate braided strands of silver connecting each one to create a web-like appearance over the hair when worn.
Choker: The choker is nothing more than a thumb-wide piece of black velvet designed to be worn snugly around the neck. A single silver hook and eye closure adorns the back, the muted silver nearly disappearing in the embrace of the plush fabric.

The first, a richly engraved dark lacquered scabbard, is set slightly forward and lower than the second, a gold-inlaid dark lacquered scabbard. Both are angled for a quick draw in combat.
Pretty neat get up. Apart from the word billowy. (personal hate)

I like it, but I think maybe you should incorporate more gold into the outfit (other than the scabbard) to give it more color.
Thanks! I'm not extremely thrilled about "billowy" either, but not many of my other pants fit that kind of look (and I'm content with it for now). But I also didn't think many people would take notice of the gold, since it's in a show, so I stayed kind of one dimensional with the shades of red (from the scarlet and cherry blossoms).

On closer inspection, the flail appears to have spent a lot of time engaged in battle and weathering the elements. Encrusted with dried soil, you can barely make out the hilt's engraving, the letters "H.D.S." You also notice a small enchanter's glyph.

Dented in numerous places, this rusty bucket is in such poor shape that it is doubtful it could even be used to carry water, sod, or seed. It appears that someone has gone to great pains to instead make it function as a helm. The front has been cut away to accomodate a hinged visor, which appears to be crafted from old gardening spades, with two slotted openings to allow the wearer to see. The bucket's rope handle has been cut at its midpoint and fastened with a rusty iron buckle. You also notice a small enchanter's glyph.

With mud plastered wholesale across these diminutive coveralls, they are certainly in an advanced state of disarray. Some unintelligible words can barely be discerned through the muck, stenciled across the bib and apparently reading, "Y-ps Snap-y" along with the letters "H.D.S.". A patch -- shaped like a shovel -- has been sewn onto the breast pocket.

This shovel appears to have seen better days. The scoop has a large fissure running down its length and looks as if it could break off at any moment. Talisman (altered giftbox item): An unfurling scroll is skillfully carved into the surface of a small disk of fine-grained modwir and painted gold, its form curling around the edge of the disk to form a border. At the center, five rings link together, each painted a different color: red, green, blue, black and white. On the reverse, a hawk is captured in flight, its beak turned to the heavens in a silent scream. Engraved into the rim of the disk in flowing script are the words, "Only with wisdom to sing to the stars."
Satchel (for holding healing props): Supple panels of a light tan doeskin form the front and sides of this wide satchel, looped and sewn with precision craftsmanship into a series of many small compartments around the edge. A glistening smoky umber swathe of fur serves as the flap, the grain of the fine hair arcing perfectly in symmetry with the design. Dangling from the corner compartment, a slender length of acantha stem pokes through the stitching.
Runestaff: Doeskin wraps several times around the staff, forming an intricate braid pattern to serve as the grip. Sinuous rivers of thin silver inlay run along the wood, slightly shimmering when light strikes it. Capping the staff is a silver disk inlaid with a ring of five stones of different color. The silver of the disk melds with the silver along the staff, as if it were the source of the rivers of silver inlay.
I made the boots myself using materials from the 2006 EG. The bracelet is an amulet holder.
If she needs to wear armor, she wears a bodysuit of subtly shaded leathers: Verdant silk laces spiraling down the back draw the leather tightly about the voluptuous curves of the feminine form, highlighted by sinuous gold and silver tracery. Numerous faint green hues slide into each other, creating a soft variegation to mimic the play of light within a forest at day.

A myriad of thin, brightly colored ribbons protrude from the top of the fragile, white vellum pages, serving as page markers for what must be considered particularly significant notations.

Tricorn - The black leather hat is pliable, with softened seams and a flexible, tricornered shape. Save for the small embossed image of an angular serpent skull and crossbones stamped centrally on the hat's front, the expanse of dark leather is unadorned. The look is timeworn, but serviceable.
Coat - Matte black mithril buckles secure the coat up the front and down each sleeve, each slightly concave to lie flat against the coat's leather body. Rivulets of crimson silk curl along the cuffs and wind down the lapels, the dark hue barely visible against the darker black. Slight rips and tears in various states of repair riddle the garment, while twin dull obsidian clasps draw the high collar upright to frame the wearer's face.
Disc - Thin layers of steel curved through a hammering process form the coils that comprise the disc, creating the image of a serpent. The steel is faintly sheened with a combination of malachite and ebon hues to lend the scales etched upon the surface a realistic appearance. Two flakes of onyx create eyes upon the head of the reptile as it curls upon its slender tail, and just within the mouth a hollow is formed. Two slivers of preserved bone form fangs that appear to be designed to cradle something inside.
The disc bears a small circular slot fitted with a faded gold ring.
Tunic - What once could have been a dashing white garment, the heavily stained tunic is quite a mess. Despite having a loosely designed cut, a row of matte black mithril buckles are fitted along the sleeves as well as the front of the shirt. Slight tears and rips cover the entire garment, some having been stitched up, while others droopily hang open. Several small pockets are sewn into the lining of the cuffs and waistband, their presence betrayed only by narrow openings in the fabric.
Bag - A single red steel buckle clasps the bag, cast into the shape of a serpent's head. Its maw gapes open, fangs extended to double-puncture a thin, belted strap. The leather body of the bag is embossed with a pattern of undulating scales.
Tube - Crafted from aged and blackened leather, the claw-like tube is very small -- the leather is time-worn and rubbed shiny in many places. A banding of alternating obsidian and wyrwood rings circles its center, and discreet runes have been stamped into its body. Talons dangle from the wickedly curved ends. The leather of the cylinder appears strained, as if containing far more weight than its size would imply.
Pantaloons - The pantaloons are dyed midnight black and meant to be worn very loosely. Ragged tears line each leg from the knee to the ankle, some are patched up while other loosely hang open. Two discreet sheaths are tucked away upon each thigh, their existance not hindering the wearer at all.
Boot - Fastening the calf-high boots are numerous blackened steel buckles, dark in hue as the rest of the supple leather uppers. Soft ebon suede is cut to fashion the soles, which are stitched together with no potentially clicking tacks or metal pieces.

a one-eyed black crow charm - A little smaller than a live crow, this bird closely resembles the real thing. It is covered with sleek, soft black feathers and has a split tongue. A vertical scar mars its face where it's left eye should be, but the socket is empty. A tiny steel tag dangles from a chain on its right leg that reads, "Task the crow!"

The scabbard is made from black leathery hide and designed to hold a large weapon. A crest of Chastonia has been stamped on the outside of the sheath, but is extremely faded. At the opening, three thin strands of matte black steel encircle the scabbard, while the tip is capped with a chunk of obsidian.

An eerie green color permeates the nearly transluscent fabric of the scabbard. The seams of the piece are completely absent, and the apeture for the weapon seems to be woven into the material.

a blackened leather helm
The helm is well worn from years of use and combat. Runes have been inscribed upon the helm in a form unrecognizable today. Sinister dark eyes upon the helm look through you almost as if they could peer through your clothing. The feeling is eerie.

I like his entire look, especially the coat and the disc! I *personally* think he has too many tattoos, but he's a pirate so it's fitting. And Issalya would cry to see Mr. Dhask looking so shabby and run-down. :P
Hahaha. Yea, I'm a bit pissed on how the tattoos all show, but they are a must! He has his whole back done, hist chest done, his waist and TWO morphing roaming tattoos. I actually removed like 5 of them the other day. His inked gash on his neck is pretty sick, I should post that...
Also, while I was looking at his outfit, one of the songs from the Curse of Monkey Island came on! It's fitting!

Dhask's Tattoos
an inked gash on his neck - The tattoo appears to be a fist-sized opening on the left side of the neck. Detailed images have been inked into the flesh, that at a first glance appear to be a real wound. A depiction of a horned viper slithering out of the wound, accompanied by several spiders has been inked around the gash.
a series of odd markings on his chest - Detailed inking spans his entire chest, starting at his collar bone and ending at his waistline. Resembling oddly shaped runes of unknown origins, the series of markings interweaves with itself in a variety of darkly hued colors interspersed with bright colors. The contrasting bright and dark colors combined with the careful interlocking of markings creates a shadowy effect across his entire chest.

an intricately inked tattoo on his back - Incredible ink work spans the entire back. Interlocking symbols of Zelia, Eorgina, Onar and Luukos are set in sort of a diamond-shaped pattern upon the flesh. Misty tendrils of black and purple surround the symbols in an irregular pattern.
