According to NBC News, the removable ballistic shields given to Saint Cornelius Catholic School students could turn their backpacks into bulletproof vests.
The vests are a result of a request Saint Cornelius Principal Barbara Rosini made to Unequal Technologies, a company that specializes in ballistic armor. Unequal Technologies CEO Robert Vito donated the bulletproof shields to the graduating class, along with 25 additional plates which were given to school faculty. As Fox 29 reports, Vito’s daughter attends St. Cornelius.
“It’ll stop the most powerful handguns in the world,” said Vito. “We went to the military testing ground and said break this. They shot it with shotguns, buckshots, slugs and could not penetrate it.”
