Should the most average state have the early primaries, instead of Iowa and New Hampshire?
The state that is most like the United States on the whole? Illinois — followed by Missouri, Michigan, North Carolina and Virginia. The least like the nation on the whole? Hawaii.

At the above link, you can see how average your state is, and you can change the weights given to different data items to recompute the averages. If you ignore Mexicans and Asians and people with college degrees, then Missouri is the most average.
