He's saying that the Pope's speech inspired him to do the right thing for the country - I'm not sure this bodes well for getting shit done in congress in the near future.

And suddenly tanning salon operators and cigarette makers feel like they are less represented in congress.
I think the Republican Party might actually split into two.

You know what, if his reason is really that, good for him. He has always spoken about how strong his faith is to him, and to have the leader of his faith tell him he needs to change his views on people to become more inclusive, to focus on the climate, and go along with the year of mercy for having abortions, probably flies in the face of the Republican position.
So good for him for following through with his previous statements and being firm in his beliefs of the church.

Short term, this will keep the government open, either b/c the Tea Party faction agreed to pass a clean continuing resolution to fund the government til December, or because there are no consequences to Boehner using Democratic votes to get it passed now.
Long term....it's gonna be a wild 2016. Really depends on who becomes Speaker and how much power they have.

There is no clear concensus choice to be speaker, especially with several potential candidate pretending they are presidential candidates currently. I am leaning towars Kerl's theory of a collapse of the party. its going to be a long year plus to the next election regardless

I can only hope the party collapses and a new one (or more) rises up.

Well, that worked really well when the tea-party came into being, so, no, that would probably not be a good thing.

Change can be a good thing. Besides, on a long enough timeline every political party dies out or becomes irrelevant.

What amazes me is that it wasn't that many years ago when the Republican Party was the one that consistently put up a united front. The Tea Party faction (or maybe just social conservatives in general) have really disrupted and changed the party. If a Tea Partier gets the position, it'll be welcome to crazy town. Of course, nothing has been getting done in congress anyway, so I'm not sure it matters.
As an aside, this is what happens when you get rid of pork. When we had pork in politics, most politicians could be convinced to vote in a given direction with a nice project of one sort or another for their district. Now that pork has become a dirty word, we can't get shit done anymore. The grease is gone.

Finally! Now the Republican Congress can stop rubber stamping everything Obama wants.

I'm sure nothing will change. Republicans will just vote for a new speaker and life will go on.

True. Now only if the Democratic party would evolve or fade away into something reasonable. As you said, change is a good thing and the Democrats becoming irrelevant could be a good thing too.

Obviously boner was embarrassed by crying next to the pope. I heard the pope called him a bitch as he walked by.

Finally something we can agree on.

Whoa whoa whoa.. we just agreed? Oh damn.
Now try this.. If only the Republican party would evolve or fade away into something reasonable.
As it stands, both parties might as well be the same party. They just say whatever they want, lie, and insult others just to get a paycheck and feel like they have some power. I think there are some politicians that probably have the countries best interest at heart, and faithful try to serve their constituency.. but they're so few and far between /sigh.. and we just keep letting them all into power while the populous just argues amongst themselves. Sad thing.

Good salary, killer benefits, tons of vacation days, and the chance to land an even more lucrative job when they get out.. easy to see why that behavior exists.

You think this behavior is gone? That is quite cute.

Dramatically reduced would be a better description. Thanks?
