As usual, Donald Trump is the first Republican candidate to have this good idea. How quickly will the others imitate him?

If Ohio wants to honor him so much, they can do something in their own state. Alaska wanted this to be changed back to Denali, and they should be able to do what they want in their own state and not have Ohio dictate what goes on in another state.

I'm guessing neither Alaska nor Ohio had have anything to do with the name in the first place - the Federal government did. It's not Alaska's land, they've got no say.
It'd be like a state lobbying to rename the Eisenhower Interstate System to something else: it's not their jurisdiction.

Well no, a state can lobby to have it changed...They just can't change it nationally themselves (maps and such). They succeeded in getting it changed to its original name. The system works.

From what I understand Alaskan natives have been wanting this change for awhile.

This is more Alaska vs. Ohio than Democratic vs. Republican.

From the wikipedia page regarding the Mt.
The United States formally recognized the name Mount McKinley after President Wilson signed the Mount McKinley National Park Act of February 26, 1917.[25] The Alaska Board of Geographic Names changed the name of the mountain to Denali in 1975, which is how it is called locally.[6][26] However, a request in 1975 from the Alaska state legislature to the United States Board on Geographic Names to do the same at the federal level was blocked by Ohio congressman Ralph Regula, whose district included McKinley's hometown of Canton.

Thinking about it....I'm 99% sure Trump doesn't give a shit what it's named, he's just trying to get Ohio votes.
But, I mean, it's a pretty smart idea to support Ohio in a divisive issue (and be the first to do it publicly that I'm aware of).

I agree it is a smart political move, cause who really cares if they win Alaska while Ohio is an important swing state.

Do people in Ohio really give two shits? Seriously doubt it.

Congress people and Governor, apparently. I tend to doubt on the rest.

No one ever cares who wins Alaska. It's not a significant political force in Federal politics, unless you bring up the subject of oil drilling. Then look out.

Kasich is the second candidate to announce he will change the name back to McKinley.

This is a weird thing to politicize. I wonder if any Democrats will say they would change it back, or Republicans look to keep it.

It fits their narrative of King Obama.

That is a legitimate point. From that point, you should conclude that GOP candidates are allowing Trump to set the agenda.
Trump is having a press conference tomorrow afternoon at his prestigious NYC headquarters in Trump Tower. More agenda setting. Why are the other candidates so weak and fearful?

I've spent significant time in Alaska and believe me, its been called Denali by residents (native and non native) for years and years.

It will always be Denali. Road names change back and forth all the time, especially here in Chicago. Any hikers or outdoor folks will call it Denali. Shouldn't have been re-named in the first place.
And I am NOT a supporter of Obama. Can't wait til he's out...course I don't want any of the candidates I've seen so far.
Long live Deeze!

There is shit like this going on: http://www.cnn.com/2015/09/02/europe/migration-crisis-boy-washed-ashore-in-turkey/index.html
And one of the main news stories here is that we renamed a mountain. Here are a couple thoughts that come to mind regarding the mountain...
1. Fuck. That. Shit.
2. Who. Fucking. Cares.
3. Wake. The. Fuck. Up.

What a putz..
Bristol Palin criticized President Barack Obama's decision to restore Mt. McKinley's name to Denali, arguing he should instead be "worrying about the radical jihadists in ISIS."
The president is wrapping up a three-day trip to Alaska to shine the national spotlight on climate change. Palin, however, wrote in a blog post (http://www.patheos.com/blogs/bristolpalin/2015/09/mr-president-get-out-of-alaska-you-have-bigger-mountains-to-climb/) that Obama should instead spend time "check[ing] out our oil fields" or opening "our pipeline" to reduce dependency on oil from the Middle East.
"The President should be worrying about the radical jihadists in ISIS who are gaining land and power everyday as they enslave, rape, and murder their way through the Middle East," Palin wrote Tuesday. "But instead he worries about renaming a mountain."
She continued, "By the way, no one is buying the 'Denali is what the Alaskans have called it for years' line. I’ve never called the mountain Denali .. and neither does anyone I know ... It's Mt. Mckinley [sic] … It always has been and always will be to most of us."
However, at least one person Palin knows has used the native name for North America's highest peak: her mother, former Alaska governor and GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
As Wonkette (http://wonkette.com/593545/sarah-palin-its-time-to-have-the-denali-talk-with-your-dumbass-daughter-bristol) notes, Sarah Palin called the mountain Denali during her 2009 farewell address (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0u5mOXzCKA), referring to "Denali, the great one, soaring under the midnight sun."
Denali was also the codename (http://www.theguardian.com/world/deadlineusa/2008/sep/12/sarahpalin.uselections2008) the Secret Service used for Palin during the 2008 election.

When you have literally solved all the problems of the world in less than 7 years.. it's not an overreach. He had nothing better to do.
