You could be right and it is possible that Hillary is being a opportunist politician and capitalising on the groundswell of support for LGBT people, however it could be that she herself has been one of the people won over by the campaigning of the people she spoke of in her video. She has a habit of talking to her immediate audience at any given time, telling them what they want to hear. It can be 11 years, it can be 11 months, it can be 11 days, but she'll say anything to anyone if she thinks it will get her votes.

My theory: She's so confident that a given demographic will vote for her, no matter what she says, that the content of what she says isn't even important to her. It's the old "Don't piss on my boot and tell me it's rain" concept. She just has no respect for her audience.

I don't think we have any idea what her true stance on the LGBT community is. Probably somewhere in the middle of those two videos.

I think the thing is that someone who is going to stand with you, even if for only political reasons, is going to be better then(or awesome compared to) one who stands against you. Especially in the case of people against gay rights, or whatever you want to call them, where people are being willfully ignorant.

Not sure it matters what any politician believes regarding SSM at this point, unless the Supreme Court does the unexpected tomorrow or Monday and doesn't strike down the bans.

I supported gay marriage in 2004 and if I were running for office at that time I would have talked around it or denied it based on the political climate of the time and the particular election based on the theory that I need to actually win an office to do the most good in support of my actual, obfuscated values. I would later reveal my true beliefs when the climate changed and claim I had evolved or changed my mind when I never really did. I suspect some of our current politicians did exactly this.

You know, reflecting on this a little, you could amend the statement to say I would have supported the maximum practically attainable gay rights in any given year. In 2004 that might have looked like civil unions and less than 10 years later it started to look like marriage equality. That's politics.
