I realize that he probably doesn't stand a chance winning the primary (even if he runs as a Democrat), but have any of you been watching Bernie lately? I'm a split ticket voter and would consider myself an Independent, and I feel like when you listen to what he has to say - it just makes a lot of sense. "Sense" doesn't exactly bode well in our current political climate, but I was wondering how others felt about him.

He makes a lot of sense.. if you don't bring real life into his political beliefs.
Socialism/Communism sounds like utopia... it just never works out well in real life.

When you say "don't bring real life into his political beliefs" do you mean the way that our real lives work, or the way that our government works?
I say that because I feel like we as a Nation would prosper if we adopted a lot of the things that he proposes, but in the current way that our government works, our politicians will only cater to their base, because of the "It's not my congressman/senator, it's the other" mentality.

Human nature destroys the theory of socialism and communism in real life. We are generally ruled by our emotions.

A nation would never "prosper" by eliminating capitalism and instituting socialism or communism.

There are a number of successful socialist nations. We are a mixed economy ourselves, whether you want to admit it or not. We have been since the New Deal.
You're correct about Communism.

Which nations are you referring to that are truly socialist countries and not a mixed economy like ourselves? I don't know of a single country that has done away with capitalism in one form or another.

It depends on what you consider socialism. Both India and Portugal self identify as it. Most of the Northern European countries that people typically claim do not, however.

If the country is using capitalism as their main economic driver, then I don't consider them socialist anymore than I would consider the United States as a socialist nation.
True socialism is nothing more than a theory... that in the real world simply breaks down due to human nature.
It only works in the classroom.

I doubt it works in the classroom.

I honestly think it does.
Everyone pulling their weight for the common good.
No rich, no poor, everyone just right.
No one needs for anything, no one is left out. 100% inclusion.
It's a beautiful theory... as long as you just believe.
Or Bolieve!

Except that most of what Bernie rails about is corporate welfare. That seems to be about half his schtick. The other half I guess is raising minimum wage etc. I hope he runs just because it will shed a little more light on a few things that would like to remain in the dark.
