I listen to fox news via satellite radio going to and from work.
I watch The 5 (not news, opinion really) when I am home early enough to watch it.
I read articles from google news when something on TV/radio or something I overheard piques my interest.
I occasionally read the Wallstreet journal.

If I want to listen to lies, I listen to Josh Earnest, Jen Psaki or Marie Harf. Seriously - how much would it suck to be them?

I usually have local news on and NBC Nightly news when I am at home in front of the computer. Occasionally BBC news.

I do have local news radio on when I am driving. The station also covers the world's top stories.

I actually like to watch MSNBC for political stories that are "bad" for the Democrats.. just because it's hilarious listening to them lament, whine and complain.

I watch the Today show in the morning for the first half hour.

I hit up Drudge, Yahoo, WSJ and TBO online for news. I have CNN and ESPN on my phone for alerts.

I get all of my news from the internets.

I have NPR on my phone for when I need news on the go.

I haven't watched an actual talking head, teleprompter reading person in maybe a decade, as pretty much every media outlet has their own agenda to push. Even looking for news on the internet can leave you subject to filter bubbles, where the algorithms try to push you towards sites that will make you happy.

I clear my cookies, keep my FB data private, use adblocker, clear my browsing history, go incognito and all that crap, just to get unfiltered access. I also check Fark, a news aggregator site where the readers choose the articles that get greenlit, and yes, even the PC.

I make such an effort to avoid bias, and get exposed to all sorts of information. It just baffles me that someone would choose to just watch Fox, or MSNBC, or any single site, and trust them to present an accurate view of the world.

I thought of this today when I was listening to a video of some kid reading very weak science advice in a very convincing tone of voice.

I say it is good to include biased media, simply because it highlights said bias. That's why I check out drudge and huffpo. Those two sites toe the party line so hard it is both hilarious and saddening.

I haven't had TV in over 5 years. I use a couple of news aggrigator services so I get headlines from around 50 of the world's most popular news organizations. I also watch online occasionally. I typically try to post stories here from the worst of the Liberal/Socialist leaning news outlets becuase it's just more salt in the wound when a Liberal/Socialist fucks up.

Yeah, my dad is the same way. Depending on the segment it's constant negative news and fear mongering, and it keeps him up sometimes. Every once in a while he'll ask me if I've heard about X story, and most of the time I have but because I heard about it from different sources I know it's been blown out of proportion. MSNBC is probably the same way on the opposite end of the spectrum.

I've never in my life owned a television that was connected to receive signals from outside my home. If I'm at my folks' house, then sure I'll probably see something on TV that isn't a film or TV show series on optical/HDD.

I don't agree with Back, but this statement needs to be reexamined. Fox is so extreme in it's leanings as to be judged clouded in it's reporting. That would invite questioning of sanity.

No, because you're apparently incapable of noticing that MSNBC has a liberal bias, calling it a show for normal people to watch. I understand that it's your binky, and it makes you calm and content to watch news that pretty much confirms your world view. But the same can be said of people who use Fox news as their binky as well.

Don't even think of rolling out that Pew study. It doesn't prove that MSNBC is nearly moderate or unbiased. It proves that people who watch MSNBC identify themselves in a certain way. There's a huge difference in these things.

Don't even think of rolling out that Pew study. It doesn't prove that MSNBC is nearly moderate or unbiased. It proves that people who watch MSNBC identify themselves in a certain way. There's a huge difference in these things.

So, low ratings = biased reporting?

Let's play a game... On a -10 to +10 scale (where 0 is unbiased) where would you rate Fox News (let's put them on the right, so the plus side) and where would you rate MSNBC (let's put them on the left, so the negative side)

Apologies, you were referring to HP, not MSNBC. News flash, HP self identifies as a liberal site.

My point remains the same. You're incapable of even noticing bias when it's directed towards your chosen side of the fence. Most conservatives will admit that Fox is biased as hell. Most liberals will admit that HuffPo is biased as hell. But not you, that's why I'm chuckling at you.

I disagree with you. I think conservatives are the ones with their heads in the sands while most regular people are just regular people. I understand that in the real world there are opposites. Hot/cold, high/low, light/dark... but there is also a middle where most of us reside and don't give a shit about those extremes. So, you claim to be the supreme of the unbiased. Do you see how you are looking down on everyone from your supposed high horse?

Isn't that the real problem? People on high horses?

No, the real problem is people who don't understand the issues, and make no attempt to educate themselves. I don't particularly care if you're liberal, conservative or moderate. There are some very bright people who are capable of presenting alternative viewpoints and solutions to issues. These people can actually pick up on subtle nuances in a debate, and understand not only that they have differing opinions, but understand why they disagree.

You on the other hand, are seemingly incapable of even following why I'm mocking you. I'm mocking you for a specific reason. Shall I spell it out for you again? Will you bother listening this time?

It's kind of subtle, so you'll have to pay close attention: This is a thread about media bias or if you prefer confirmation bias. People tend to search out for, and interpret things in a manner which confirms their world view. In short, people like to be surrounded by a warm blanket of happy thoughts that don't make them think too much. Some liberals do this, some conservatives do this, and yes, even some moderates do this. Most introspective people, (I'd like to think) are aware of this tendency and will take some steps to mitigate it. Some people, like yourself, are utterly blind to the existence of anything that takes you outside of your comfort zone. These people use weasel words like "us" and "regular" and "progressive" confusing popularity with reasoning.

Like I have a comfort zone?

Dude. I'm not what you want me to be. Yeah, I get it, you have some invisible foe someone has convinced you is your enemy. I could say listen and think, but the think part can be a little hard for some people.

News networks don't win Pulitzers (that's for print and online media). They compete for News Emmys, I believe.

Going through the lists, it looks like the pretty much only ever award them to newspaper journalists. They do have a prize that gets awarded to a media organization as a whole, but that has always been newspapers from what I see.

Ok, now stop. I feel like you are wasting all this stupidity on one day. What the hell are we supposed to do tomorrow or the next day!??

Oh, here it is....

"Only published reports and photographs by United States-based newspapers or daily news organizations are eligible for the journalism prize."

Fox News isn't even eligible to get one. Neither is CNN or MSNBC or Headline News or any other TV news network/anchor.

Where did he claim he was unbiased.. or even the Supreme of the Unbiased?

You're just being stupid to be stupid at this point. Honestly, if you don't see liberal bias from places like HP and MSNBC, then there really isn't anything to help you with.

But most of us already knew this...

Excuse me, I never denied it! You may refer to me henceforth as El Supremo!

How do you figure?

Let's say we have our -10 0 +10 spectrum line. You believe that HP is -10 and Fox is +10?

I'd put Communist websites far more left than HP.. and Libertarian websites further right than Fox.

Rofl, you have to pay $50 and enter yourself into categories to be considered for a Pulitzer. I should start an award for something that has tons of categories and have people pay me money to enter.

The "Who's Who" book people already beat you to it.

I'd go -4 +5 as an average for both. Straight up reporting can dip towards 0 on both, but sometimes shit on there gets fucking insane. Like Fox & Friends.

I'm probably right about there. I'd give MSNBC -6 probably.. just because they are completely over the top... but HP is more like DR.

The fact still remains that Fox has zero Pulitzers! Zero I say! Last I checked, they haven't won Lord Stanley's Cup either. Coincidence?

I can't tell if Back is being serious or not in too many posts in this thread to directly link them all...let me try to sum it up so I'm clear on his position...

FOX news and Drudge Report are incredibly biased fear-mongering non-news hacks, but MSNBC and HuffPo are unbiased, normal, legitimate news sources?

Why does it not surprise me that Back is completely incapable of recognizing the bias and hypocrisy of his own camp?

Libertarian further right than Fox? Oh yeah, man...I mean, legalizing all the things Conservatives hate is ultra right-wing.

The Political Compass does a lot better job with ideology than the idea that it is simply left and right.

That's precisely my point. Realistically, very few of us are actually "left" or "right", yet we still use that measure more often than any other when referring to each other. I guess it's just easier than getting to know individuals.

Alternately, I would say that the end of the road heading right is Fascism, which no Libertarian would ever be accused of.
