Once Lynch switched sides, it pretty much telegraphed that slant pass to the defense as well. Sloppy as hell, Butler said he picked it up through film study. Film Study Baby!

Best of the game IMO. Especially when the old people tell you not to cheat...always tell the truth...keep your eyes open, and your mouth shut...don't complain...tell it like it is...don't bitch...never forget where you came from...
Rarely has so much timeless wisdom presented itself so succinctly. Too bad it's a Dodge commercial, but...who am I to bitch?

Carroll's call at the end of the first half, with only 6 seconds left, could have been called "OMG TEH WERSE CALL EVAR!", but it worked out and people called him "Gutsy" and "Brave". He just ran Lynch the play before for a good sized gain.. I have no idea why he didn't go again with him, but maybe he saw something when they lined up that he thought that slant was there. It wasn't a terrible call, it was just a fantastic play by Butler who timed it absolutely perfectly. I wish Seattle didn't go offsides on the very next play.. that would have been an even better ending if Seattle got a safety and New England had to punt it.

Browner misbehaved after the game this time. Got right in Sherman's face to the extent that I wonder if he left Seattle because of problems with Sherman. Can't really judge an entire team because of the antics of one player.

It never comes down to a single play, but yes, had they scored on that play, the fans would have been all "hah, we outsmarted you suckers!"
The problem with the play was execution, telegraphing the play, not having the confidence to audible out of it, not calling another timeout when the Patriots failed to call their own time out, letting go of the pass instead of throwing it out of the end zone.
For all the talent the Seahawks have on D. Their schemes are childlishly simple, Brady picked them apart when he finally stopped trying to force the ball to Gronk. Way too much is being made of the play call, and not the real reasons they lost.

Very true.. but all things equal, it made me root for the Patriots. That and Lynch's antics during press day. Listen, if you don't want to do your job (and yes, the stupid event known as Press Day is part of that job) then go elsewhere for your work.

They had the #1 defense in the league.. so I guess they aren't as childish as people say they are.
And I just don't think enough credit is being given to Butler on that big play. He recognized the play, jumped it and timed the route perfectly to hit the receiver and secure the interception. It was less about Seattle's play calling (Lynch was 1 for 5 TDs this year in carries at the 1 yard line... which surprised me) and more about the preparation and execution by Butler.

I meant childish as in the scheme. It's mostly a cover 3, which is known as the high school defense. They rarely disguise it, instead relying on big hits and alligator arms to discourage the short passes. It's great against the deep passes. Great against impatient offenses, and even impatient Brady. Once he went back to the slot receivers, and took what was given, the Patriots just marched down the field without much concern about what to expect. Sherman nearly always stays on the left, allowing the offense to choose their match-ups to some extent.
1 in 5 doesn't surprise me. It's hard to run on any team in the NFL expecting a run and stacking the box.

Yeah, that. I thought something like that was called offsides. I also heard something about Brady tapping Stork on the ass to trick the Seahawks??
An Offside penalty occurs when the ball is hiked and a defender is past the line of scrimmage.
Encroachment is when a defender touches an offensive player before the ball is snapped.
A Neutral Zone Infraction is similar to both, but occurs when a defender moves beyond the line of scrimmage (before the ball is hiked) and causes an offensive player to false start. Instead of a false start against the offense, the defense is given the penalty.
Unabated to the QB, the play is blown dead.
Quarterbacks can be called for a false start penalty (five yards) if their actions are judged to be an obvious attempt to draw an opponent offside. It's super fuzzy, ass tapping doesn't really rise to the level of a false start.

PK, remind me next fall and we'll work out which game I can send you to. I don't get my tickets until then anyway.
Best part was on the Pats' last drive and everyone started chanting Brady's name like in the Cincy game. Gave me the chills.
The call to not run it with Lynch at the end was dumb, but they wouldn't be even in that position without that BS miracle catch from Kearse, so call it karma. Talk about Tyree part two (or three). It was a great game and could have gone either way, but the Pats outplayed Seattle especially in the first half and at the end when it mattered most and they deserved to win.

Brady fucked up the first 3 quarters.
Really dude? Do you realize that many people were calling Seattle's defense the best of all time before the game? Sure he made a couple of bad throws, but he threw for 328 yards and 4 TDs, and when it was nut cutting time in the 4th quarter he was nearly perfect. Do you think Rodgers is a good QB? Did you see what he did against Seattle? Played in their half of the field the entire game after being gifted four turnovers and he managed a QB rating of 56. Brady's was 101. Do you think Manning is a good QB? Did you see what he did against Seattle last year in the Super Bowl? This was an all-time great performance by the GOAT and really the first time a dominant offense has gone up against a dominant defense in the Super Bowl and won. They got no help from the running game, which averaged less than 3 yards a carry. They weren't winning that game without an A+ performance by Brady and they got it.

Brady is an amazing quarterback. That's the problem here. If you're an amazing quarterback, you're expected to bring 110% of that amazing to the bowl. He was doing his work, but it was nothing less than uninspired until the second half. He absolutely positively exceeded expectations when he was on the ball in the fourth quarter, and that's the Brady everyone wants to be out there, under the gun and working well with the pressure.
Seattle's D *IS* great. Nothing else to say about that.
But that A+ performance? Didn't come until it mattered. Which is to say, if it had been there the entire time, the game would have turned out a LOT differently. I just wasn't seeing his top game until later on. Different views, I suppose. =)

This was an all-time great performance by the GOAT and really the first time a dominant offense has gone up against a dominant defense in the Super Bowl and won.In an interesting twist on last year's Super Bowl, the Seahawks were at a severe disadvantage on special teams: -1.7% vs. NE's +5.5% by DVOA compared to last year's +4.7% vs. DEN's -1.0%. This -11.9% year-over-year was enough to flip last year's result, when the team that was net better over both sides of mundane teams (Seattle 35.3% > Denver 33.7%) was also better on special teams. This year Seattle 33% > New England 17%, and was actually better on defense AND offense in the regular season, but special teams matter too. By my count the Pats' average starting field position was their 27 (not counting either possession at the end of the half), the Seahawks' was their 24. That doesn't seem like much of a difference, but who knows.
Mostly, all football analysis is an exercise in small sample size theater. All the DVOAs above are for the regular season, if you count the playoffs New England goes from 17.0% to 21.2%, a frankly ridiculous jump for two games.

Advertising. Chevy tripled the value of that ad by giving it to Brady, with all the extra buzz about Brady giving it to Butler.
From ESPN "In May, the Patriots had already filled their 90-man roster with their rookie draft class and undrafted free agents when they hosted about 30 prospects at Gillette Stadium. A lot of work goes into pulling something like that off, not to mention expense, but the thinking was that even if just one of those players emerged at some point, it would all be worth it.
That was the day they found Butler, who was first spotted by area scout Frantzy Jourdain."
I'm thinking Frantzy should be getting a nice bonus too. If I had an open GS account, I'd definitely create a Frantzy. Frantzy.

I dunno what the league minimum is, but you got the point. Used to be in the 300k range. Now, I'm not saying these guys are hurtin for money (pretty much their fault if they are), but after all the various taxes and agent fees, Butler isn't gonna get 600k any more than the league minimum guy is gonna get 300k or whatever it is. Still, it's a pretty large jump from Brady-money to Butler-money.

It generally raises by 15k a year for rookies. It was set at 435 this year.

Maybe if the doctor was Pete Carroll, and had tried to pass the baby... but even then Butler and Sherman shouldn't be on the field together. The doctor does kind of have the Pete Carroll "what just happened" expression...
So, just no, too many inconsistencies. I think Belichick would agree with me that it fails the situational humor test.

I suck at watching movies. At home, I'll talk through movies critiquing them, and generally being bored, because I nearly always pick out what direction the movie is going in. I'm very rarely surprised. I have a hard time losing myself in the moment.
Depending on how appreciative my audience is, I can also be hilarious, substituting lines from the actor in a different movie. Every time Saruman came on the screen in the LOTR, I'd toss out a " It is obvious that this contest cannot be decided by our knowledge of the Force... but by our skills with a lightsaber" type of line. Pretty much any mopey Robin Williams movie devolves into Genie/Good Morning Vietnam one liners. I can't really separate actors from their previous roles.

Since we're on the free agent thing a bit here... would kinda like to see Donkey Kong sign with Miami.

I'll tell you what if they beat Seattle I'll give you my tickets to one of the games next year
PK I haven't forgotten about my promise. I still haven't finalized yet which games I'm going to go to but let me know if there are any games you CAN'T make so I can take that into consideration. Also let me know if you have any preferences and I'll see what I can do.

Asides from a home game I have no preference though I like the idea ofthe December 20th game. IIRC they usually don't have a game on that day and its my bday :)
