View Full Version : Obama's ISIS Speech

Why did he even bother to make a speech? He didn't say anything new. It wasn't a particularly inspiring delivery.

If George Bush had given that speech, everybody would be terrified, and we'd be mobilizing for war. Obama said ISIS isn't an immediate threat to us but might be in the future. That's not how you start a war.

I CANNOT believe he brought up Syria and their chemical weapons that they aren't destroying as if it was a big victory. Well, being that it's Obama, I can believe it. I wonder if his speech writers giggle whenever they put in "facts" like that.

Oh, and we gonna getcha ISIS, just like we got the terrorists who attacked Benghazi. But imma let you finish, since I have a tee time in 15 minutes.

Broad coalition? of 9? The war in Iraq was a coalition of what, 40? And it wasn't just our troops there, it was troops from nearly a dozen nations?

The best thing that could happen is republicans win in November and Obama gets nothing more of his agenda to destroy America implemented. I hate a do nothing congress, but it's better than letting one person destroy the country.

The only thing I got from last night's speech was that Obama didn't know what ISIL or ISIS stood for. "ISIL is not Islamic". WTF? I thought the "I" in ISIL is actually the word "ISLAMIC"?

It's the same way many terrorist groups in the area aren't Islamic. They use the title, but are an extreme faction that perverts the actual ideals of a religion.

They can call themselves whatever they want, it doesn't make the title true.

Yup. He did a good job of teaing down ISIL's legitimacy. They aren't a state and they aren't Islamic. He also hit all the key points. That as with all military operations there are risks. That it will take time to decrease and destroy ISIL. That countries in that area need to step up and lead the fight, and so forth. Like his other recent speech in Estonia it laid out the foundation of how this crisis is going to be handle.

Good speech all around.

And it wasn't just our troops there, it was troops from nearly a dozen nations? For reasons that aren't entirely clear to me, the Wikipedia article on the coalition lists 13 members and exactly 40 nations with any number of troops deployed. I thought it could be a certain # of troops but they include the Czech Republic (300) and not Romania (730) so that's not it, and Romania was in the war a month prior too.

I thought the "I" in ISIL is actually the word "ISLAMIC"?East Germany wasn't a democracy. China isn't a republic. You yourself have called Boehner a RINO (http://forum.gsplayers.com/showthread.php?72855-Ron-Paul-and-Braveheart&p=1425659#post1425659). Blows your mind, huh?

I take this back. Sure he gave a great, compelling speech.. but that is all it was. A speech. The community organizer still doesn't know how to lead and his so called coalition is falling flat on its face. Almost two months of air strikes and we still haven't really stopped the IS feom advancing, let alone degrade and destroy them.

Because airpower alone is insufficient.
Need special forces on the ground (embedded with the Kurds/etc) to provide real-time coordination and to perform 'mop-up' duties.

Editted to add that this was the lesson taught from the Serbia/Kosovo problem/situation during the Clinton years.
We were 'supposed to' not repeat the mistake of only relying on airpower.

I think he should have a lockin at the community center with all the ISIS guys. Provide pizza and cokes.
