In the waning hours of their session, California lawmakers passed a measure to provide workers with three paid sick days a year, capping tense negotiations that splintered supporters.

Many corporations and their owners believe it is immoral to pay people who won't work. If a man will not work, neither should he eat. This mandate is unconstitutional because violates the religious rights of corporations.

Why won't you start threads under your real handle, Latrinsorm? I like you a lot but even I'm tired of Clyde.

Only 3? Back when I used to work for the State I got 6 hours of paid sick leave per pay period, so...18 days. Why can't they pass a law forcing all companies to provide the same benefits the government does for their employees?

Because that isn't very free-market'ish.

Because a company would have to use their money to pay for that.. where the government doesn't.

Paid sick leave is one of those things I think is utterly stupid.

If a company wants to offer it to entice quality people, it's their choice. I don't think anyone or thing should be forced to do it.

What sense is it to pay people to not work, I mean sure the government loves to do it, but if you hired a babysitter for the night, who called you and said she/he was sick and couldn't make it. Do you feel you should have to pay them anyway?

Or better yet... take your car in to get fixed. The mechanic calls three days later and apologizes that one of his workers was sick, so it took longer then normal, but don't worry, they are still charging you for the 8 hours the guy should have worked. Seems fair.. right?

For any moron that says it's not the same thing... it really is.
