Self defense classes tend to give a false sense of confidence... turns out most women are not generally attacked by slow moving guys in foam suits. Dude, if you defend yourself then you can't be a victim. Modern day feminism is more about leveraging victim status then about redressing actual gender inequalities.

Take for instance the slutwalks. If I remember correctly, the slutwalks originated after women who were attending a seminar on how to avoid being raped where told by a police officer one of the ways to help avoid this was not to dress like a slut. While it could be universally accepted that a better choice of words should have been chosen, the cop did have a point. A woman dressed in bikini with less fabric than a wash cloth walking into a bar in the wrong side of town at 2 AM on a Saturday morning is going to attract a lot of attention, a fair share of it bad. Eh, I don't think that is what she was doing at all, although you could likely fit the various subgroups into one side of that or the other. But it would be a bit silly for her to go into all the different groups and subgroups for no real reason other then to make herself sound smart while the rest of us would just roll our eyes. Well if you want to, by all means. While not all of those feminists are out of their minds I think enough of them are that this would be a fitting place to talk about them. I doubt I'd have anything to add to it myself but it never hurts to learn things, sometimes.

You're right, it is an over simplification of a very large group of people, both men and women, with varying levels of intensity and diversity of opinion.

My statement comes from the perspective of appropriate word choice and connotation. The phrase feminist is often used (incorrectly, in my opinion) to describe "man-hating women" which further simplifies the group. I simply wanted to say that misandrists and misandry is more appropriate term for those who are anti-man.

I have seen so many people be repelled and immediately pass judgement if someone identifies themselves as a feminist. The assumption is often (in my life-experiences related to the topic of feminism, which is admittedly limited in comparison to some) made that this person hates men and thinks they are horrible. I feel this does a disservice to those who are championing for equality, not upheaval.

(In my opinion) The connotation of the word feminist has been tarnished by misrepresentation of a broad spectrum of ideals as simply man-hating. I feel that it subtly impacts the ability for equality to be reached, because more moderate (using this term to represent those who are looking for equal rights, pay, protections, etc under the law, rather than a paradigm shift toward women over men) ideas are dismissed as "crazy man-hating feminists want xyz". I think the media does it's part to inflame this discussion and make the phrase feminist into a hot-button word, because it helps to maintain control of the flow of ideas throughout our country, and the world.

Of course there are more than two groups of thought, and of course not all feminists agree on everything, I did not mean to make it sound like I was simply splitting it into two polarized groups. As with everything, it is very broad reaching and means different things to different people, and the degree of passion and intensity is very different from individual to individual.

Kind of like how the label Racist is tossed about anytime there is an attempt to have a real discussion about matters of race instead of actually working to address real issues. I can agree that not all feminists are man haters, and not all of those that don't support affirmative action are racists. I can say that any law that limits one group in favor of another is bad. For example Title IX and most affirmative action laws have not accomplished anything even remotely close to what they were intended to do.

Reading comprehension fail. I stated that Title IX has not accomplished anything even remotely close to what it was intended to do. You seem to believe I am implying it is a success and no longer needed. Please reread my post and take the time to look up any words you don't understand.

For the record, when I linked that article I intended for people to read past the first line. But here are I think the two lines most relevant to your claims:
