Repugnant. (http://blog.chron.com/texaspolitics/2014/06/first-draft-of-state-gop-2014-platform-has-revamped-planks-on-immigration-homosexuality/)
“We recognize the legitimacy and value of counseling which offers reparative therapy and treatment to patients who are seeking escape from the homosexual lifestyle. No laws or executive orders shall be imposed to limit or restrict access to this type of therapy.”
I feel like I just read a recap of an episode of True Blood, not actual GOP platform language.
Yeah, it is weird. Why the heck have a statement about Benghazi in there?
“We call upon the United States House of Representatives to appoint a select committee and a special prosecutor in order to subpoena testimony to fully investigate all aspects of the Benghazi debacle, including, but not limited to, the reason Ambassador Stevens was in Benghazi; the denied assistance before and during the attack, the accounts of personnel who participated in the defense of the Embassy Annex, and the apparent attempt by the White House to deceive the American public with a concocted story about a spontaneous reaction to a YouTube video. We call for bringing those responsible to justice.”

It's mind-boggling to describe homosexuality as something to be escaped from, but it's not as bad as what they used to say about it. You gotta look at the glass 1/10th full.

Not really. It was classified as a mental disorder until it became cool, then they removed it from the dsm.

So you're saying 1/5th full? I can get on board with that.

I love the simultaneous respect followed by categorical dismissal of science implied in your statement. Clearly, homosexuality was considered a "mental disorder"--based on hard evidence, right?--and not pervasive social and religious bias. And then surely, "It became cool," and all the scientists were like "Yeah, you should just 'Try Being Gay,' because that's a thing that happens." Or was it the influence of the "Gay Mafia"? Because the overwhelmingly unpopular gay community in the 1970's had so much political power.
Dumbass.

I'd certainly much rather be gay than suffer from whatever the hell's wrong with your barely-functioning mind.

As a white female who lives in animal filth, I'll defer to your expertise here.

From the front page...
2012 Texas Democratic Party Platform
Preamble
Texas Democrats believe democratic government exists to achieve as a community, state, and nation
what we cannot achieve as individuals; and that is must serve all its citizens.
We believe every Texan has inalienable rights that even a majority may not take away
…the right to vote
…the right to fair and open participation and representation in the democratic process
…the right to privacy.
We believe in freedom
…from government interference in our private lives and personal decisions
…to exercise civil and human rights
…of religion and individual conscience.
We believe in responsibility
…that people are responsible for their actions
…that we, who have benefited so greatly from our state and country, have a responsibility to support
and give back to our communities and public institutions
…that corporations are not people and should not be used to shield individuals from the responsibilities
of their actions.
We believe in equal rights
…guaranteed in Section 3 of the Texas Bill of Rights
…and equality under the law guaranteed in Section 3a of the Texas Bill of Rights
…and that no state may deny any person equal protection of the laws or due process under the law as
guaranteed in the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
We believe in equal opportunity
…to receive a quality public education, from childhood through college
…to have access to affordable health care
…to find a good job with dignity
…to buy or rent a good home in a safe community
…to breathe clean air and drink clean water
…to have our voices heard and not be drowned out by the power of unlimited money to influence or
buy elections and legislation.

I like that Back. It's a platform, AND a comedic piece.
We believe every Texan has inalienable rights that even a majority may not take away
…the right to vote
…the right to fair and open participation and representation in the democratic process
…the right to privacy.
--- Except when the Dems are the majority in Congress then they like to take away the minority parties rights. (Reid and his refusal to allow amendments for example, changing the rules to they can push people thru the approval process with just 51 votes and no debate)
We believe in freedom
…from government interference in our private lives and personal decisions
…to exercise civil and human rights
…of religion and individual conscience.
Unless it's something the Dems don't think is good for you, then they plan to make it so either A) you can't afford it, or B) are not allowed to have it. (Look at the proposed sugar tax.. Also lets look at religion.. it's ok for you to have religion and individual conscience.. unless you disagree with something they believe in, then your personal rights don't matter - I.E. MUST sell morning after pill even if you don't want to.. MUST bake a cake for a gay couple, even if you don't want to) -Yes I think the second one is stupid, but still-

Funniest one to date... considering most of the time I hear people saying.. "Well it's not THEIR fault so and so did something, they felt they had to".
We believe in equal opportunity

I highlighted the ONLY important word in that whole part.
Also.. the unlimited money part.. I bet Dems didn't mind when unions could supply pretty much unlimited money. Maybe Unions should not be considered people and not be allowed to donate funds either.
And no.. i didn't read the GOP one, cause it's likely JUST as stupid. These things are NEVER meant to appeal to the Average middle of the road person, they are meant to appeal to the Base. And the Base of the Dem party is just as fucking nuts as the Base of the Repub party.

What parts of that platform aren't meant to appeal to everyone? That platform does sound appealing but in practice like most platforms it will, in all likely hood, fall staggeringly short of its promise for a whole number reasons, mostly because our political system is a joke.

Really the only strength of it is the peaceful transfer of power.
