Anyone else playing Archeage at the moment? I've been following it since its Korean release and I ended up buying the alpha package. Wow, I haven't been this hooked on a game since at least EQ2 (the last game I've played for any length of time). Its got a nice synergy with all of its systems and nothing really comes as quick or as easy as most games of the last few years. I'm addicted to its crafting which I've never really enjoyed before in another game. Beta weekends should be starting in a month or so.

Just purchased and installed this. Studying and enjoying it so far. Might need to upgrade my system a bit to run it at full capacity though. Beautiful scenery, and once I get the settings right (size all the windows/fading/etc.) think will be really smooth.

Yeah, its really tough on my system. I've had to turn everything down to normal, except for draw distance which I've kept at max. Most people have found that running it in dx9 seems to offer much better performance though its not quite as good looking.

There's a new alpha server opening within a couple of weeks (omega server). Both will be patched to the KR 1.2 version, after that a revised version is coming for NA/EU full of tweaks requested by Trion. I'm not playing much until then since it involves a big revamp of the skills across most classes.

Ya, I'm on high settings right now, but it's straining my system a bit. From what I've seen so far though, this would be a game I'd want to run at max settings if at all possible. That might mean some liquid cooling and a few upgrades. If its worth it, I'll definitely invest in those.

Thanks for the heads up on the patches. Guess I'll just keep doing my research till that big patch and beta hits. I do wish they had more race selections, but the customization of the races is really nice.

I ended up going with the Alpha package, as the rewards seemed worth it to me, especially since it's a one time thing (did the same with Rift and LOTRO). Keep in touch and let me know, be nice to have someone from the GS community to explore with.

Yeah the alpha package is definitely worth it if you plan to play for at least 3 months after release, I grabbed it as well. Its an incredibly good looking game with everything cranked up, some of the best visuals I've seen in an mmo ... maybe the best actually.

I have a few regulars that we usually hit mmo's together, one of them is an old GM from here named Issigri (always mess up the spelling heh). We'll probably hit it when it goes live, I know I will and at least another one who also bought the alpha package. We plan to join a guild at release on whatever server we choose. Half of the game really depends on you having a guild and I don't mean raiding. The ship based combat and trading really need the support of a guild to do correctly (although a small group can also do it at a smaller scale). But where it really shines is at the larger scale with tradeships with warship and clipper scouts/escorts.

Also the northern continent is all for guild use, building castles with associated guild housing and raiding them.

This isn't to say that you can't have a perfectly good time solo or with a small group though. I've been playing solo with a stealth build and I'm able to do a lot of stuff, even stealthy trade runs to the enemy continent.

There is also new content coming which will open up more of the continents and add a few more races, I think dwarf, fae and warborn.

My current main is on the Nui faction (West Continent) but I'm not in game much right now and I'll probably roll a new toon on the Omega server to check out the Haranyi faction (East continent).

Awesome. Well I hope we definitely keep in touch. I'm down to join a guild, but with work and my play style, I would be off an on. I love helping out, but do enjoy solo play myself. With my research on this game, see myself as a raiding mercenary sort of.

I would love if they put in the Dwarven race, I have always trended towards the sturdier races. I hope the changes they make are for the best, and they don't dumb it down to much. From what I've played so far, I like the intricacy of it all.

150$ is worth it for playing for 3 months?

Wait.. most of us easily spend that on GS.. so yeah, I guess.

Aluvius
06-25-2014, 02:51 AM
Well you get $75 game store credit, 3 months of Patron status (essentially like having a sub that allows you to do a lot more like own land in the game .. all of which is not instanced woot) so that's around $30-45 wortth, plus a bunch of other really useful in game items. So with the credits and sub time you're basically paying $45 for a collector's edition game with alpha and beta access.

The best items you get are the glider, title and cloak which are quite useful in game. The glider is one you would have to pay gilda to get otherwise, I've only found 1 cloak quest so far and haven't achieved any titles (they both give +3 to all stats which is a nice boost in this game).

The flight from gliders is the best flight I've seen in a MMO, except maybe Shadowbane. You can stay up for a long time and some are weaponized and have special powers like stealth and such.

Another neat thing in game is you can build submarines, tractors, cars, etc besides just naval ships. Its high fantasy with steampunk and combustion technology all mixed together. It sounds crazy, but it works. :)

I do want to play this game, but don't really like jumping into alpha's...in fact until any game declares no character wipes I normally stay away. It looks really nice...

meh...GSIV has most of my spare gaming time right now, I looked at some of the summer steam sales and realized I wouldn't have time to play any of it. Same with Wildstar which I would like to try out, and The Secret World, which has one of the coolest story lines in an MMO in my opinion, has a new area...damn that need to sleep and eat and socialize and stuff.

Aluvius
06-25-2014, 12:45 PM
Yeah, just wait till the open beta stuff starts and try it out then. There's really no rush and everything will be wiped before release. It'll have F2P and subscription type options with a cash shop so you can try it cheap at release to decide if you want to spend money on it. The decision to go with the 1.2 update for release has pushed the beta events back, so probably closed beta july and open beta for august or later.

Its the first game that's had any sense of difficulty to it that I've played in years. Most of the information online is in Korean or Russian so there's not a massive spoiler database to access. Its been fun actually figuring shit out on my own. :)

The alpha servers are being patched to the Korean 1.2 version tomorrow and the patch notes are up. The Trion revised patch will come later and the closed beta should start mid-late July. I'll probably start a Haranyan (eastern continent) character, most likely named Aluv, on the Omega server. I think the servers are going down at 11a est and they predict up to a 12 hour downtime. Which probably means Thursday for me. :)

Sort of -- you basically need to sign up for "Patron" status, since you need points to do pretty much anything. But it comes with 90 days worth.

Can't help but notice in several of the gameplay videos out there that the same character model is used over and over, with different hair and clothing.

Honestly with the fact it was pre-released in various Asian markets, the fact the chat windows are constantly spammed with gold sellers just tells me this title has more akin to SecondLife than an actual MMO.

There are 4 races, 1 is an animal type that runs on all 4's ... I guess you just happened to see a lot of gameplay videos of the same race? There are 4 more being worked on for the expansion, 1 is a dwarf and another is a construct type.

As for the gold sellers, I dunno its the same as I've seen in any game. I've never played SecondLife so all I know is from reading a few articles about it years ago, but offhand I'd just say no? :)

Trion gave away loads of beta keys for the event this last weekend, CBT2 will be coming up soon so I'm sure more keys will be released for it if you want to try it for free.

I was referring to an NPC, I see the differences with the PC models.

I did sign up for the Beta just to see what it is like, should I wind up with a key.

Aluvius
07-26-2014, 10:21 PM
Hmm, yeah a lot of the quest NPC's are the Asian models but there is also a nonhuman race used extensively for the merchant/crafting related NPC's. The pets and mounts have some neat options that you usually don't see in Western games, too.

CBT2 starts this Wed 7/30. Should be a lot of keys going out for it. Also, Archeage is now on Steam which some people prefer.

I'm really enjoying this game, but I'm not playing much at the moment. I've figured out what class I'll likely play and my early gameplay. I'm just waiting on release. I and 2 of my usual gamer friends will be playing release on the Eastern faction. We're all older players so we'll be casual during the week and play more on the weekends. I think we're going to join a guild on whatever server we end up on, but you can do a lot with a small group as well. AA has a "family" setup that functions below the level of a guild so we'll be using that for the start.

The Omega server is the newer alpha server. CBE3 starts Aug 14th, you might want to check it out, too. It will give you more of a feel for a release server since the alpha servers have double labor regen and most of the land is taken already. You only have to download/install the game once though. You can either copy the alpha folder over to a beta folder or just rename it alpha/beta when you want to play either one (and select the alpha/beta drop down on the Glyph launcher).

Meh, I'll be on a River in Arkansas during the next beta weekend. Most of the land is taken though? Hmm... How is that going to be handled when the game actually releases and has even more players? I guess more servers, but still.. TRICKY TRICKY

Also, holy crap at requiring 40+ gigs to be free.

Aluvius
08-08-2014, 04:19 PM
Yeah, the final installation is smaller, around 22gb I think.

You can definitely still find land in non pvp areas for your first 8x8 scarecrow farm, but placing a 16x16 farm or larger structures will be tough even in an unrestricted pvp zone. This is only on the alpha servers where everyone has Patron status.

The beta servers are much more like a release server where most of the population is F2P, so there won't be a problem with land for awhile. Also there is an in game realty dealer where players can put up their land for sale, it transfers the structure as well. And if people don't pay their taxes then their structure is demolished (they get the plans back in the mail) and the land is opened up. The tax cost is escalating so it makes it tougher to hold a lot of land parcels, its also account wide so it definitely discourages land squatting.

Gelston

So, this game is fun as hell. I'm only up to level 13.. I took the necromancer occupation. I just got my first glider, which is sweet.

I kinda hate that I'm playing it a bunch, because I just know I'll probably get burned out of it before the damn game even launches... But there seems to be so much to do in this game.

Some of the NPCs still speak korean or whatever when you click them, which is pretty funny.. But for the most part they seem to be nearly done with localization for English.

Aluvius

Yeah that's why I've stopped playing for now. I can't wait for release and didn't want to get burned out.

Its got that something that I've been missing from most mmo's in the last few years. If it helps anyone decide, my favorite ones have been EQ1/EQ2, Planetside, DAOC, Darkfall (the guild city building part at least, a lot of the rest of the game was tough to like), Pirates of the Burning Sea.

I'm fairly sure alpha is definitely going to be wiped even if its used for a PTS. There's a lot of confusion about it though so who knows.

I wish they'd wiped them before the 1.2 patch, the economy there is crazy because they did not. I'm tired of the complain threads about it on the alpha boards. That being said, I'm looking forward to archeum drop rate adjustments. :)

Aluvius
08-12-2014, 12:06 AM
Nice! It'll probably be tougher though if you want to place a house or 16x16, but not as impossible as it used to be from what I've read.

The thing to do is to figure out long term where you might want to place your structures at release. I'm shooting for a temperate zone with water access but its not essential, pretty much anywhere will work since you craft your packs in each zone depending on which one you want to make. The special fellowship trade packs require you to own land in that zone though.

Gelston
08-12-2014, 12:38 AM
I've already started making a road map on how to get land as fast as possible. Honestly, the first two zones I don't care about. The third one is where I want to place. This is as that Nuin race or whatever.

Yeah, the 8gb download is to streamline the patching process with Glyph. It'll mean much smaller downloads on all subsequent patches. The actual game patch is only 800mb for version 8.6.

The shader update on the last patch seemed to improve my performance, now all I really want is an increase in the archeum drop rate. :)

Oh sure, the closed beta tests are free. The next one starts this Friday, check the usual gaming sites for key giveaways and sign up on the AA website for beta as well.

There's no reason to buy a Founder's pack unless you are certain you plan to play after release for a few months, then its actually a great deal. However if you plan to play as a F2P player you won't be able to use the housing/farm/land part of the game and your labor regen will be lower.

So I just checked this game out for a little bit.

Only got to like level 3 because I'm about to crash. Picked a sorcerer.

Maybe I'm just jaded on WoW clones, but I didn't see anything particularly special about this game. Run around, cast fireballs, turn in quest, etc.

Granted I'm only level 3, but what makes this game so much different/better than other MMOs out there?

Well, at level 4 aliens take you away to a different world and give you a space suit that lets you fly.

Aluvius

Yeah, the quest system is for people that aren't familiar with the game. It eases you into it, starting around level 10 it introduces you to the crafting/farming/housing/tradepack part which leads into the shipbuilding part which leads to building tractors/cars/castles and all that. It also leads you around level 30 to pvp because at that point all your remaining quest/hunting content are in open world pvp zones. There are also rvr zones where guilds build castles and their own housing areas where they can set taxation levels and other guilds can siege them to take their castles. Underwater exploration and fishing, there's even a specific ship for open sea fishing, submarines and diving helmets and swimming fins and you can import your own images onto special items and clothing. Then there's the gliders which are fun and pvp useful.

I'm probably leaving stuff out. Its not that any one thing hasn't been done before or anything is really special, but that the whole game sorta comes together into something interesting. Right now at level 4 you're seeing the worst parts of the game which are the business as usual questing and tab targeting combat.

I wouldn't worry about buying any founder packs if you're unsure or on the fence about it. The only reason I bought one is that I've been following the game for a few years since its Korean release and I'm certain I want to play it for awhile after release.

That being said, if you do play after release I'd recommend planning on spending the money for Patron status if you have any interest in crafting and housing/farming. If not then F2P will be fine, you can do pretty much anything else at the reduced labor regen rate, even building ships with some planning. Also people can share property through the family and guild systems. Definitely try it out for free before spending any money though.

Myself and 2 friends are rolling Harani (eastern) faction, we're going healer/tank/dps. We'll be casual during the week and play more on the weekends, we'll probably end up joining a larger guild for the end game content which is more pvp/rvr/open sea warfare than raiding in this game. I despise pve raiding heh.

Yeah, really no need unless you absolutely want to place farms/structures in a certain area. There'll be plenty of land around since founders will be spread out among the launch servers instead of crammed onto 2 servers with 100% Patron to 0% F2P ratios.

Play around in the open beta and then decide.

Ok.. if they KNEW they sold x amount of early access accounts, why in gods name are the servers not robust enough to handle x amount of accounts.

Imagine the wait times come the 16th.

Queue came up as 2h 15 min, now is down to only 1 h 33 min.

Taernath

Does no one remember WoW having these same issues at launch and at every xpac's launch?

Speaking of WoW, has anyone been messing with the WoD beta? I'm kinda torn between reactivating for that and checking out this game. I know this game is F2P and all, but I can't handle more than one MMO at a time.

I'm just curious if WoD is more of the same with bigger numbers like most other WoW xpacs or what, and I'm too lazy to find that thread to ask about it.

Not that I've seen. They added something called 'bonus objectives' to areas, which are like objectives that just show up when you enter an area. So far it's just 'kill this, pick up that' kind of thing, and I think they only award xp.

Aluvius

AA is aiming for a higher density player population on its servers and will likely opt for more queues rather than opening new servers. Likely the caps are lower than they will be down the road to ensure the population spreads out amongst the servers. Likely a few new servers will be opened at launch day, too.

I wouldn't expect too many though because this isn't a game where you can just merge servers down the road (due to non instanced housing/farms). It also depends on high population density servers for the end game and economy to function well.

I have a house and farm down now and should have a large farm today if I can get back on lol. I and 2 friends are playing on the Naima (I think is the spelling) server on the East side, my character name is Aluv if anyone rolls over there. We're mostly older casual type players. So if you like to spew racial epithets and political opinions while teabagging your pvp kills we're probably not your best option. Although I do like pvp, I just don't get insane about my gaming anymore. We're not organized or anything, but if you just want some friends on a server you're welcome. :)

Its possible at some point we'll join a guild for larger organized stuff.

I'm surprised how quickly the housing areas filled up in the non-pvp temperate zones. Still plenty of open land though.

He quit because we went into a VR dungeon, and, even in dps spec, our tanks couldn't, even together, touch ONE pure dps. It sort of pissed him off to the ceiling. Me too, to be honest. We lost to a soft enrage timer like eight times before we called it. It wasn't even our fault either. We both had top shelf VR gear current with our rank. With full set bonuses. We still got screwed. And there was no way to fix it. Brift quit like a week prior because he was so fed up that rogues were so combo-based that if he missed a button, he died. Without fail. Sure, he could solo but damn, miss the third ability and start over? You end up toasted. I thought he was exaggerating... yeah he wasn't. It was crap.

There was a lot more wrong, but the game was so crap paired with how amazing it was. They just didn't bother trying to FIX the crap parts. They spent weeks to fix two random ass questlines that were non-zone integral for progression, leaving classes borked. UGH! Too much rage! Too early! I've got work in five hours! ARGHHHH!

Was it VR spindle?

There were a lot of broken VR dungeons too. And some of them, it is actually the point to stealth by mobs. You could farm them like craaaaazy though.

Don't remember the dungeon, it was full of dwaemer crap. Everything dropped either a soul gem or a soulbound purple that sold for 10k each. The respawn was so close, you could do it over and over until your inventory was full and make tons of money.

I'm not sure, our group hasn't had any problems since Saturday logging into the NA servers.

As for Inoch it may be that the non pvp zone land is largely claimed now, but the pvp areas even on our server (Naima) are still mostly open.

Heck, I was able to place 2 16x16 and a 8x8 in a row near an edge in an Arcum Iris housing zone on Sunday. I know its not an "optimal" zone but it was better than my alternate placement in Falcorth Plains (Villanelle was gone on Friday by the time I had 15 gilda for a small house, I was one of the people that didn't get any gilda in my daru chests lol). I decided to switch to jujube or yata packs.

Windscour and Perinoor were mostly open from what I saw through yesterday, I've been placing illegal tree farms in the pvp zones heh. About a 50% pickup rate, much better than the non-pvp zones.

So thats how people got houses so fast.. gilda in their boxes. Some people had 5+ founders packs given to them, wonder if they got multiple boxes.

Around 3Pm est.. I was able to get in, and could get back on US servers. Started on Enla, and got my house and farm in a decent placement as of now. We will see later tho.

One thing I would like... the ability to delete a char WITHOUT having to sit 2.5 hours in queue to do so. Sucks that one of my slots is stuck on Kyrios now.

Yeah, I think the extra founder packs weren't the ones with the daru chests though. My friends both got multiples of those while I didn't receive either of my founder pack emails until late in the afternoon lol. Its funny, but once I decided to move from Falcorth I ended up with the best spot (with room for expansion) of any of us. Bad luck brought me good luck. :)

The queue was pretty long tonight and my friends both had the bug where characters don't show, so they had to relog and get back in the queue. I crashed while in the queue and got the hackshield help page on the Trion site heh. After that it was good once we got in, though there's some lag noticeable on quest turn ins and crafting.

Heh, the first time I sailed my new clipper on the Alpha server it was stolen by a level 50 Somali Coast Guard same faction player. I wasn't so clear on when you could engage and didn't realize that housing island off Dewstone was considered a pvp area. Thankfully he just sailed it over to Cinderstone and it despawned after 5 minutes. I was chasing it in my rowboat full of panic. :)

Seriously though. Starts off like any other random MMO, but then it just explodes with options.

It has full open world PVP too. You are never safe in the seas. Not even from your own faction. There is a justice system where players service as the jury and decide sentence though.

I originally thought I'd hate it, because I usually mostly do PvE in MMOs... It just works here.

I had misgivings about it at first, and it sucks sometimes, but it works and I think the game is better for it.

You want to make a trade pack in take it to the other continent? Well, you have to walk it to a port, take it on a ship, and hope pirates or the other faction don't attack you. Oh and by the way, all the pirates are other players that accrued enough infamy.

You can hire other players for protection and stuff. And that does happen.

Yeah they had submarines in alpha, you could buy the plans on Mirage Isle where the underwater farm air generator is sold now (those 3 empty showcase areas). They were nerfed in 1.2 because they were essentially invincible superweapons heh. Now they're a lot slower, but still a great way to smuggle a tradepack into a port or salvage tradepacks on the deep ocean floor or search for treasure chests, etc.

They will be released along with other missing content in a release schedule that mirrors the original Korean patch/expansion releases, along with Auroria and the large farmwagons and such.

Patch 1.7 adds in a neat raid instance where a guild has to take in ships to fight ghost ships and stuff. :)

The game does have instanced dungeons but that's about it.

Thinking about giving this a try.

In gameplay terms how much does it suck to be a non paying account versus a paying one? Does the labor point difference really affect you? My girlfriend is one of those people who could do gathering skills pretty much all day everyday (and actually like it) so I'm kind of worried she'll burn out fast.

JackWhisper
09-24-2014, 02:57 PM
Well the gameplay so far *early levels* is a lot of tutorial click and learn crap. It's a bit wonky, I won't lie. But think WoW mechanics, and that'll get you far enough into the game that it starts diverging from that and lets you specify how YOU want to play.

They are tied together, so yeah you'd have to work up to master alchemist. You can buy items that allow you to max out every proficiency though. They cost a few hundred gold each, something license or something. Of course actually being able to do that is another thing.

I've got a nice little area built up with a connected thatched farmhouse, large farm and small farm and I'm running into labor problems keeping it all planted/harvested and working up a couple of proficiencies.

Houses gives you protected storage and stuff, and you can stick crafting junk in there. Gardens you can grow stuff and raise livestock.

Houses/land can make the ingredients needed to support/skill up a trade profession and they can supply the items that make trade packs you trade for gold/gilda/stabilizers. You also need a home to place high level crafting tools. Rare materials can drop like thunderstruck logs.

It seems like this game requires Patron status to play seriously. I only get 5 labor per 5 minutes while online, and that's it. Can't own land, so if I want to craft, it has to be all in public farms/stables. And even if I do that, I'd be labor-stopped pretty hard.

Plus leveling as a support class in this game is a pain in the ass, but that's to be expected. I still haven't found a good resource for this game, the wiki is woefully incomplete.
