View Full Version : Should GOP Allow Immigration Vote in 2014?

No, not unless they can come up with a better bill. The current proposal of amnesty and increased immigration would be a total disaster. Trust me, the the path to victory is to do nothing.

The GOP shouldn’t even field a presidential candidate in 2016 unless Congress passes immigration reform this year, U.S. Chamber of Commerce President Tom Donohue said Monday.

“If the Republicans don’t do it, they shouldn’t bother to run a candidate in 2016,” Donohue joked at an event on infrastructure investment in D.C. “Think about that. Think about who the voters are. I just did that to get everybody’s attention.”

The efforts have drawn fierce opposition from conservatives, whose objections include concern about proposals to offer a pathway to citizenship for the millions of undocumented immigrants in the United States. Some also argue that parts of the bill would hurt employment for U.S. citizens.

“The immigration bill in question would double the annual number of guest worker admissions – from roughly 600,000 a year under current law to 1.2 million a year if passed,” Stephen Miller, spokesman for Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), one of the Senate bill’s fiercest opponents, said in a statement later Monday. “It would also triple the admission of largely lower-skilled permanent immigrants over the next decade – from 10 million to 30 million. Immigration reform should mean putting unemployed Americans back to work, not replacing them at a lower cost.”

People should be free to travel to whatever piece of land they want and live. America is supposed to be a free country, it's time they started acting like it.

Let me know where you live, so I can come and reside in your house free of charge. I'll also bring a few dozen Mexicans as well. You won't mind, right?

Once again the Republicants don't understand how this works.

Let me break it down for the simple minded conservative.

FACT: Americans have never done menial tasks like picking crops and janitorial jobs. Never. This is why we need more undocumented workers in this country.
FACT: Even though they are here illegally, undocumented workers always pay all applicable taxes, never commit any crimes and never use any resources. They are givers by nature, not takers.
FACT: The US has enough room for everyone who wants to come here, legally and otherwise. Almost the entire state of Wyoming is devoid of human life, plenty of room. Plenty of room.
FACT: Undocumented workers help to reduce the effects of climate change. If you won't do it for yourself, do it for your children.

The more people we bring into the country, the better. More tax revenue, higher GDP, increased production (because Mexicans are a very ambitious People), increased prices (supply and demand) will mean we can finally pay minimum wage workers a living wage, etc.

There may be a few minor inconveniences, but if you are against open borders, you are against humanity.

I don't believe in thinking in small terms as "you" and "I". I prefer big picture macro thinking that really can't be translated into micro world very well. So don't try.

Rahm Emanuel and Rep. Luis Gutierrez gave a joint interview in which they both predicted that Obama will issue an executive order on deportations this year if Congress does not act on immigration reform.

First of all, I don't think Obama will do it. He's deported more people and has been more aggressive about it than any other president. He's not going to change direction all of a sudden.

And second, Republicans have little incentive to act on immigration. Republican members of Congress, with a few exceptions, are not running for president. They're running for reelection. And they are in tightly drawn districts with few minority voters. Their voters want them to be tougher on immigrants, not grant amnesty.

“He can't legalize them, but he can stop their deportation, and put them in a safe place,” Gutierrez added. “If they want to simply be a regional party, a party of little cities, and regions in a few states, okay, because that is your future. Abraham Lincoln … first Republican president, George Bush, 2004, you watch, he's going to be the last Republican president for a long time.”

President Obama should do whatever he can whenever he can to prevent these poor people from being kicked out of a country just because they weren't lucky enough to be born there; the Constitution be damned. The only people against these brave immigrants are people who are frightened because their skin color is different.

Why is this idiot posting under two accounts?

I'm white. My adopted sister's African-American. She's a lesbian, married to a Mexican. The mother of my child is Japanese. My brother's married to a Filipino. You? You're just an idiot. Not all white people are racist. I got no problem hating YOU though. Please tell me you're a minority so I can wave my racist flag.

This article (http://thehill.com/homenews/house/206447-all-eyes-on-boehner) summarizes the difficulties with holding an immigration vote in 2014..

Boehner said the House will not vote on the comprehensive immigration bill passed by the Senate.

Boehner then said no immigration bill will get a vote unless it is supported by a majority of Republicans, aka the Hastert Rule.

Boehner later said the House will draft several separate "step-by-step" immigration bills, instead of a comprehensive bill.

Still later, Boehner said no bill will get a vote until Republicans trust that Obama would enforce the new laws as Republicans intend.

Boehner should just be a leader and get this legislation passed before the midterm elections. What's he afraid of?

These people didn't do anything wrong except come here illegally and shouldn't be treated as criminals.

Obummer's time is just about up. Once he's deported back to Kenya, Boehner will have more flexibility.
