There are a few times when the script will ignore the Lock Roll setting:

If you're using a broken lockpick

If you're trying to open a plinite and get this message: "with the feeling that your abilities are probably not sufficient to retrieve the core"

If you receive one of the following messages:

You carefully try to work it free but end up bending the tip
You carefully try to work it free, but it may have been weakened by the stress

Because these lines seem to indicate the current lockpick ain't cutting it.

Other than that though it should follow the Lock Roll setting.

That's not what I'm seeing, unfortunately. This is with the Lock Roll set to 60:

Oh yeah, "You are not able to pick the lock, and learn little about it." is another line that the script ignores.

I'm assuming when I wrote that part of the script I figured that was a line indicating the chance of opening the lock with that pick was rather small too. Is that just a normal fail line?

Yeah, it just means your roll wasn't good enough to get a tingle or a full read on it. A better roll would give you: You are not able to pick the lock, but you get a feeling that it is within your abilities.

And then above that you have a: You are not able to pick the box, but you get a sense that it has a very complex lock. About a -885 difficulty lock (in thief-lingo). (or whatever complexity & #).

And then above that it opens. I wanna say that it wasn't honoring my Lock Roll setting even on one where I got a read on the lock size, but I don't have a handy log of that.

Okay uploaded a new version so the script will go by Lock Roll when getting this line: "You are not able to pick the lock, and learn little about it."

I wanna say that it wasn't honoring my Lock Roll setting even on one where I got a read on the lock size, but I don't have a handy log of that.

The first time you get the lock size via picking the lock the script will grab the appropriate lockpick for the job. Measuring with calipers isn't always accurate but from what I understand when you get a read while picking that number is accurate so the script will go by the new number.

It only does this the first time you get a read on a box though so if it's doing it more than once on the same box then that's a bug.

It was already using the right lockpick for the box, my rogue is a grandmaster & gets accurate caliper readings (as long as they're maintained, natch).

Will do, I'll try out the new one. Was just coming to tell you that from some more testing on the previous (non-echo) version, it seems to be working fine on regular rolls and tingles, it's just the ones that give a read that are causing it to move on.

Well that took longer to figure out than I expected.

Apparently the problem was the line is supposed to be:

You are not able to pick the strongbox, but you get a sense that it has a fairly complicated lock. About a -765 difficulty lock (in thief-lingo).

But in the script I had it as:

You are not able to pick the strongbox, but you get a sense that it has a fairly complicated lock. About a -765 difficulty lock (in thief-lingo).

Do you all see the problem? It's so obvious!!!!

In any event I'm pretty sure this is fixed now. The first time you get a read on the lock the script should grab the lockpick it thinks is best for the job, every time after that when you get a read on the lock it will go by your Lock Roll setting when deciding to move on to the next lockpick.

One other thing I just remembered and wanted to mention about tpick: I noticed that if you have vials loose in your locksmith pouch, but not bundled, it doesn't recognize them and moves on to wedging. Bundled vials are okay, but a pouch only holds 10 bundled vials, and will hold 20-30 loose vials, so it might be helpful to look for the loose ones too.

For reference, this is my pouch with all 3 types of vials loose:

Peering into the locksmith's pouch, you see a lump of squishy white putty with about 48 pinches left, 95 little balls of cotton, a set of narrow metal grips, a thin metal file, a thick steel needle, 10 vials of liquid and:
lm tool (1): a set of professional calipers.
lm trap (16): a clear glass vial of light yellow acid (9), a thick glass vial filled with murky red liquid (3), a green-tinted vial filled with thick acrid smoke (4).

edit: And related to this, I just ran into this with a plated box (there are 9 bundled vials and all the loose ones I posted in said pouch):

That sounds like a bug within the game itself when it comes to plated boxes, bundled vials, and using the locksmith pool because when you disarm a plated box with bundled vials in your locksmith's pouch it should automatically use a bundled vial.

I can look into updating the script to use loose vials as well.

Suggestion for tpick - add options to use the water lore utility feature from 407 to "mod" down a tough lock.

If tpick finds a box that is too hard to pick, 407 it to "mod" it down with the water lore until it is in range to be lockpicked and then switch back to lockpicking!

Yes, I've done that a few times with a wizard in the locksmith pool, you'll get less xp but it means you can get started on the next job instead of faffing about with a difficult lock.

gilchristr
01-02-2021, 02:35 PM
407 could unlock, but probably not if its a difficult lock you'd have to be really lucky. And like winter I'd be glad if it ended up popping.

But with reasonable lore training the lock can be modded down 10 per cast. So if I ran into a -1200 lock, I'd be able to quickly mod it down to -10% of that, -1080, which would put it in range of a vaalorn lockpick for me.

Had tpick start bombing out last night at the point where you get coins from a box:

"You gather the remaining 1,861 coins.

not sure they just got around to adding the comma on coins picked up out of boxes?

Also would like to request a native feature to auto drop coins after each box if possible for folks like me who table pick and gather coins with various other characters, I have it sort of homebrewed into the script which is going to block me from downloading any updates ya do.

Few more tpick observations: 1) Calibrate on startup does not appear to be working. I've had it set but not ever seen it try a caliper calibration when I run the script.

2) The vials for disarming a plated box thing I posted about previously, I've been trying to recreate that for testing but it's tough to find a plated box I can't melt on the first try. However, from one manual attempt, I believe what's happening is that if you roll low enough to fail the disarm (pouring the vial onto the lockplate) on the first try, the game as you mentioned freaks out if you try to DISARM the box again, as opposed to doing a DETECT which essentially resets that vial failure. Not sure how complicated it is, but I think if tpick can notice a failure on the vial pour for the lockplate, if it did a DETECT after that it would be able to proceed normally until it actually melts the lockplate.

3) The script seems to be acting strangely and skipping my vaalin pick, and sometimes it will go from something like an unlored veniom straight to lored vaalin, and I've yet to see it try an unlored vaalin attempt after golvern or kelyn. I'm not sure, but could this have something to do with setting my Vaalin Roll to 1000 as mentioned in the setup? I essentially want to never use my wedges, and always be trying with vaalin + lore on the hardest locks, but could this be interfering with the normal vaalin selection process?

4) Touching on the not wanting to use wedges thing, I tried to do a little test and just erased my wedge container from ;tpick setup, however afterwards it was not able to find most of my containers or picks, doing like a get # and it's just blank, instead of normally get #234724358 or whatever the itemid is for the pick/container/etc. I tried setting the container back but it was still having the massive freakout, so I ended up deleting the tpick variable and re-did the setup. This mostly worked, but for a couple of my picks (golvern lockpick for alum + golvern, "silk-wrapped veniom lockpick" for veniom) it still refused to find them. I tried cleaning the veniom so it's just a "veniom lockpick", and I dyed the golvern lockpick to a "maroon golvern lockpick" and this seems to have worked for the moment, but I just wanted to report this as it was pretty strange. edit: When it was trying to find the veniom/golvern after re-doing the setup, it was giving an itemid # but it did not appear to be the right one, as it just gave up and said it couldnt find them.

edit: Also about the broken lockpick thing, I'd been changing around some of my containers in the settings and just earlier today I saw it put a broken lockpick into the proper specified container that has been changed from my original settings, so that part is working for me at least.

edit 2: I spoke too soon, I just now noticed it still failing to find a different pick, this time my vultite pick, which does exist and is on my keyring along with all my other lockpicks.

edit 3: Okay, I actually lucked into the plated box situation and I tested it out and I think I was right. Here's the log, it failed the initial disarm, I killed the script and manually did a detect right after, resetting the trap whatever on the game's end, and immediately did a disarm again and it was successful:

Few more tpick observations: 1) Calibrate on startup does not appear to be working. I've had it set but not ever seen it try a caliper calibration when I run the script.

What do you have in this setting field?

I didn't know you could fail at pouring a vial, I've never noticed that before :O

I'm gonna need a log of what happens when you try to DISARM a box with no vials.

This should be fixed now. When starting with a lower pick it should now try to use vaalin unlored first unless the script determines you need lore to pick the box.

Not sure. If this happens again try logging out of the game and back in.

I didn't know you could fail at pouring a vial, I've never noticed that before :O

Hmm, okay, I'll try to get some logs of that.

Not sure. If this happens again try logging out of the game and back in.

Tried that and it was still happening. For the vultite one that I found messing up, I just dyed it a color and updated the setup and now it works. I'm curious if I clean off the ones I dyed, will they still work when I change it, or go back to not working? But they work now, so I don't want to mess with it really.

Oh, one other thing I scribbled down to mention: It appears that tpick is not using lore when it encounters a plated box, and that seems to be how I even ran into the issues. I have my disarm lore set to cast at -350, but I had a plated box disarm failure earlier over -400 that I noticed while testing, and realized that it was just trying it with no 404 which is odd.

This should be fixed now. When starting with a lower pick it should now try to use vaalin unlored first unless the script determines you need lore to pick the box.

I made sure to update tpick before I started testing, and I just ran into a box that had to go up a pick from unlored kelyn, and it still lored me before using the vaalin.

Any lockpick should work as long as you enter the full name in the setup menu, minus the leading a/an.

I switched names to protect the innocent. Why is the script reaching into my disposable container to pick (the sack)? I have 3 vaalin lockpicks, 2 of which are currently broken.

The script looks for your lockpicks in any container, just in case someone uses the same container for both broken lockpicks and their working lockpicks. The script will keep track of which ones are broken after it tries to use a broken one and won't try to use that broken lockpick again until the script stops and is restarted. I will implement a more elegant solution for this in the future.

The bug with the script trying to use a broken vaalin lockpick and giving up even though you have more vaalin lockpicks should be fixed now. The script will only give up if all of your vaalin lockpicks are broken and the script determines you need a vaalin lockpick for the given lock.

Can you provide a log? Also when does this happen? Just when doing ground picking? Any picking?

I just tested the code with coins on the ground and it picked up all of the coins with no problem.

So even when you manually did "get coins" it still only grabbed a few of them the first time? Any idea why this is happening? :/

I can't seem to replicate my character only grabbing a few coins from a pile.

I could just make the script keep getting the coins until it sees "you gather the remaining", just wondering why it's only grabbing a few to begin with.

I have another ;tpick feature request if you don't mind...
Right now if there are more boxes than what will show in a given room it will only pick the ones it's able to see when ;tpick first starts. I think the room item limit is 98. Can you make it so that it will pick all boxes? Maybe before it's about to end have it check the room again for more boxes. I like to dump all my boxes at a table during the day and then pick them all at night. At the beginning of the month this could be a couple hundred boxes. Here's an example of a room with more boxes than will fit in the description.

One of the four table legs has been utterly destroyed in some past bar fight. As a replacement for the missing leg, three mismatched pieces of linden wood have been attached to the table with rusted nails. The makeshift table leg is shorter than the original three and is resting on a square piece of maoral wood, making the table tilt alarmingly. As a centerpiece, a single wilted daisy droops over one side of a broken mug, which now serves as a vase and has water seeping slowly from its jagged crack. You also see an enruned monir strongbox, a badly damaged monir trunk, a battered silver strongbox, an engraved mithril box, an enruned maoral chest, a corroded iron coffer, a scratched gold chest, a sturdy steel box, a sturdy maoral coffer, an enruned monir chest, a sturdy monir box, a weathered maoral strongbox, a sturdy brass box, a plain brass chest, a sturdy wooden box, a dented mithril trunk, a rotting monir box, an enruned tanik coffer, an acid-pitted iron box, a plain gold coffer, a badly damaged mithril coffer, a weathered monir trunk, a dented brass strongbox, a scratched silver coffer, an enruned brass coffer, a plain gold coffer, an iron-bound maoral box, a rotting tanik strongbox, a weathered modwir trunk, an enruned fel strongbox, a plain fel trunk, a plain brass coffer, a plain silver strongbox, an enruned tanik strongbox, a sturdy monir strongbox, a plain thanot chest, a corroded brass trunk, a sturdy brass chest, an iron-bound thanot coffer, a scratched monir coffer, a weathered monir trunk, an acid-pitted brass chest, a badly damaged maoral box, a corroded steel box, a simple maoral coffer, a battered gold chest, a corroded brass coffer, a sturdy haon strongbox, a sturdy monir coffer, a scratched iron trunk, a sturdy tanik chest, an enruned tanik box, a scratched thanot coffer, a badly damaged monir coffer, a weathered tanik chest, a sturdy wooden box, an acid-pitted steel coffer, a scratched wooden strongbox, a scratched tanik coffer, a plain gold box, a simple wooden box, a scratched wooden box, a rotting wooden trunk, a simple wooden trunk, a sturdy maoral coffer, a plain maoral strongbox, a battered silver trunk, a rotting wooden trunk, an engraved steel trunk, an enruned wooden chest, a weathered monir chest, a dented silver chest, a weathered monir strongbox, an engraved wooden trunk, a badly damaged thanot trunk, an iron-bound modwir chest, a dented brass coffer, an enruned iron coffer, a scratched thanot coffer, a plain brass trunk, a plain mithril strongbox, a scratched brass trunk, an enruned maoral trunk, an enruned steel strongbox, a sturdy maoral strongbox, an enruned brass trunk, an engraved haon strongbox, a rotting wooden trunk, a sturdy silver coffer, an acid-pitted steel chest, an engraved thanot box, an enruned steel coffer, an engraved fel box, a scratched maoral trunk, a sturdy brass chest, an engraved silver box, a plain iron box and a bunch of other stuff.

I'm on version 319 and I'm still seeing ;tpick hang when all the coins aren't gathered on the first attempt. The good news is that when I ran my own script that checks for that and gathers again ;tpick was able to pick all boxes even if there are more than the max room description will show when ;tpick originally started. Below is a log of the last box picked before it fails to gather all coins and the script hangs.

ok so the workshop foreman is in 14072 but in your script, the command is to go wooden door. the vestibule (14701) has two doors; grey wooden door and a dark brown wooden door. if you enter the command "go door" it takes you to barober in the unmapped room. to rent a worshop, you need to put the command "go other door"

ok so the workshop foreman is in 14072 but in your script, the command is to go wooden door. the vestibule (14701) has two doors; grey wooden door and a dark brown wooden door. if you enter the command "go door" it takes you to barober in the unmapped room. to rent a worshop, you need to put the command "go other door"

The script uses ;go2 so if it's doing "go door" to get to room 14072 then that is a bug with the mapdb.

I made it so the script goes to room 14701 then does "go grey wooden door." If "go grey wooden door" doesn't work and you have to do "go grey door" or something let me know. It's better to use full names instead of doing "other" because sometimes the order of things in rooms get turned around or they might add more doors in the future or something.

ok so should i let kaldonis know about the room? i realize its much better to be specific, but for that particular room, grey door/ brown door doesnt work.

Yeah if ;go2 14072 just does "go door" from room 14071 then that's a problem. There should be a way to go a particular door. Either go grey door or go grey wooden door or something.

The Grand Inquisitor approaches you and says, "Come now, your question wasn't that tough, XXXXXXX! Any dunce can tell me 'What hangs above the armory?'"
>
[colmaster]>answer Breatsplate

Might wanna fix the spelling in that, I did it in my copy but someone else might get hammered

The script says "Breatplate" but your copy says "Breatsplate."

Is it supposed to be "Breastplate"? Or does this plate armor belong to someone named Breat? :O
