I was up last night flipping through the channels and I happened upon a channel that is a live Congressional feed to see a Congressman reading "Green Eggs and Ham" (and doing a pretty good job from a storytelling standpoint) and then telling his daughters goodnight. Figures it had something to do with Obamacare.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(CNN) -- He made it through all of Tuesday evening, overnight, and well into the morning Wednesday. And a full 17 hours after he began, Sen. Ted Cruz was still carrying on his anti-Obamacare effort from the Senate floor.

With more than a little help from friends who took turns speaking while he rested, Cruz showed no sign of stopping.

"How are ya doing?" asked fellow Republican Sen. Pat Roberts of Kansas, taking the microphone.

"I am doing fabulous," Cruz replied.

"I intend to speak in support of defunding Obamacare until I am no longer able to stand," Cruz vowed Tuesday. "All across this country, Americans are suffering because of Obamacare. Obamacare isn't working."

At one point Tuesday, the Texas senator read the Dr. Seuss children's classic "Green Eggs and Ham" to his daughters as the night wore on.

Apparently this does not quantify as a filibuster, so this seems to be just political grandstanding / attention-whoring.

Procedural vote to occur at 1pm regardless of whatever Cruz is doing.

I am no fan of Obamacare but as far as I am concerned, Cruz should just sit down and shut up.

For those of you too dumb to grasp it on your own, the moral of the story is that Obamacare is worse than green eggs. You shouldn't try it because you wouldn't like it.

A character known as "Sam-I-Am" pesters an unnamed character (who also serves as the narrator in the book) to taste a dish of green eggs and ham, to which the unnamed character denies the offer, answering throughout the story, "I do not like green eggs and ham. I do not like them, Sam-I-Am." However, the persistent Sam-I-Am continues to follow him and encourages him to sample the dish, asking if he would sample the dish in numerous locations (House, box, car, tree, train, dark, rain, boat) and with a variety of animals (Mouse, fox, goat). Finally, the unnamed character gives into Sam-I-Am's pestering and tries the green eggs and ham, which he finds he does indeed like.

The Senate voted unanimously on Wednesday to move ahead on a spending plan needed to avoid a government shutdown next week, with Republicans, including Sen. Ted Cruz, unexpectedly reversing themselves after previously trying to block the measure over their objection to spending for Obamacare.

...and as it turns out, Cruz voted FOR on the procedural vote. The final vote was 100-0.

So the whole point of the 21 hour speech was...uh...OK I'm confused now...

You do know what the word "filibuster" means, right? Because trying to compare these two tells me you haven't a fucking clue.

Well, they were both pointless in the end of it all.

I wouldn't say Wendy Davis' filibuster was absolutely pointless. On a procedural level, it forced Gov. Perry to call a second special session. On a political level, I'd say Texas Democrats got re-energized. (which will dissipate if she doesn't run for governor)

Cruz's fake filibuster, however, didn't do anything on a procedural level, since the vote was already scheduled and he had an agreement with Harry Reid to end his speech before the vote. And on the political level, it seems to have confused the Republican base, since they all thought he was trying to block the bill, and then he just voted to open debate on it.

Two other Senate Republican offices confirmed to TPM that they had been fielding calls from confused constituents. National Review Online's Robert Costa reported that a harsh response from the base had reduced administrative assistants in two Senate GOP offices to tears.

More nails in the coffin of what was once the GOP.

I definitely do not want the Democrats controlling the House, the Senate, and the White House after the 2014 elections. At the same time, I cannot figure out just what the heck the Republican strategy is for winning the elections. If the goal is to lose in a big way, then they are doing a fantastic job.

When no intelligence is needed to mash a bunch of buttons on the keyboard I suppose no comment is needed either.

Yes. Yes I do. Thats why I call into question Methais' understanding since the two pictures he put up have no correlation whatsoever.

What is a filibuster if not "hijacking" the senate/congress/whatever? That's exactly what it is, it is a form of obstruction.

So when a Democrat does it it's "Oh the filibuster 'heard around the world!'" when a Republican does the same thing in theory (although in this case it's actually NOT obstruction at all) it's "This Republican dude be hijacking the senate y'all!"

Come on, Back.

You mistake my opposition to Meth-asshole's post as a political stance. It is not.

An actual "filibuster" has procedural consequences. What Cruz did does not.

Most filibusters are just delaying a vote, holding up the entire process. Even that lady in Texas knew the governor could just as easily call up another vote and have it passed through the Republican controlled congress, which is exactly what happened. All she did was slow down the process, delaying a vote because she didn't like the outcome.

I'm beginning to think you really don't realize there is almost no difference between what she did and what Cruz did.

Sarah Palin wrote this article supporting Cruz and warning everybody else..

The message only grows stronger. The grassroots is bigger than any one person. We the People will rise up, and we will make our voices heard. Right now, Ted Cruz is speaking for us in this Obamacare fight. God bless him for it.

Hang in there, Ted and Mike. You have millions of supporters among ordinary hardworking Americans. We support you because you don’t shy away from the fray. May your colleagues in the Senate gain the wisdom to support your excellent efforts so that you can see that the view is better from inside the bus than under it.

Oh, and a little reminder to Republican senators up for re-election in 2014: Moose season ends soon, allowing more time on one’s hands. So, we’ll be watching your votes very carefully this week.

When presented with two conflicting factual assertions, most people choose to believe the one that makes them more comfortable or, in the case of politics, most closely matches their ideology. You chose to believe your lying eyes -- apparently without any investigation -- instead of me, even though I am one of the most trusted participants in this forum.
