View Full Version : 300 kids break into house to party and create $20,000 in damages

(CNN) -- About 300 teenagers are realizing they picked the wrong place to throw a wild party after breaking into a former NFL player's second home and causing more than $20,000 in damage.
Brian Holloway, a former offensive tackle for the New England Patriots, was in Tampa, Florida, over Labor Day weekend when his son told him he was receiving tweets about a party at their home in Stephentown, New York, Holloway said.
"I thought it was a joke," he told CNN on Thursday.
But Holloway soon realized there was an underage party at his home.
"I'm looking at these tweets and they're saying, 'I'm partying with the NFL.' 'I've never seen so much alcohol in my life', 'I can't wake her up', 'Oh we're being busted. We gotta hide. Get rid of all the drugs.' " he said.
Holloway contacted police, but by the time they arrived, the damage was done.
The partygoers broke and stole multiple items, put holes through walls and spray-painted graffiti throughout the home.
"We had learned that they had broken in," Holloway told CNN's Brooke Baldwin Thursday.
"They used a couple of different ways to enter the house. They broke and kicked in a couple windows. They came in through one back door. They took a ladder and came in through the window."
-----------------------------------------------
It won't be too hard to find most of the partygoers as some of them used social media to tweet and take pictures of the event.
Halloway is seeking forgiveness and redemption for these teenagers if they come forward. If it were up to me, I would create something similar to a chain gang and forcibly put these ~300 kids to work for a year. The first thing they would do is repair the damage to the house. After that, they could pick up trash on highways and in parks, or whatever else the county needs done. And if they complain, they can take their chances in prison.
And before some idiot under 30 makes the accusation, no I am not trolling. I am completely and totally serious, and my opinion is hardly unique.

If they're 'teenagers' likely, they're under 18. So for some, at least, it will end up purely being a slap on the wrist, a mark on a file that gets sealed, and a damage payment. Most of the parents will plead stupid kids being stupid. Whether that should merit more than a middle finger, I can't say. Kids are stupid. I was stupid at their age, just not getting caught stupid.
Any of em 18 or over, or 17 in some cases? Fuck yeah. I say give em sentences typical to B&E. Show em what happens.

I'm surprised that there was no security system.
That does seem strange given that the owner spends long periods of time away from the house. But taking a risk like that, although kinda dumb, isn't illegal.
A few of the parents of the teenagers have expressed frustration that if there had been a security system, there would have been no party and their kids would not be in trouble. I think such parents should join their kids on the chain gang that needs to be formed.

In the 1960s, society was concerned, almost to the point of preoccupation, about juvenile delinquents (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oc_30Ph7mw0). Anxiety about juvenile delinquents seeped into every aspect of culture. We definitely don't want to repeat the 1960s.

Sadly I know a few people who would probably do this. The son of a couple I know told his teacher "You're a fucking moron" (the kid was only 13 at the time) in front of the whole class, he openly admitted this. The parents were angry and went to the principle to complain about the TEACHER because supposedly how it all went down was the teacher told their son to be quiet because he was talking during class then he said something but the teacher didn't hear what he said so he asked their son what he said, he ignored the teacher so the teacher asked "Come on, be a man, speak your words." That's when the son said "I said you're a fucking moron!"
Of course you can see the problem. The teacher TOLD him to say that (no he didn't), the teacher should "know better" than to talk to a child like that (I guess telling a 13 year old boy to own up to what he said and act like a man is a bad thing?) and the teacher shouldn't have called him out in front of the whole class like that.
What's wrong with parents these days? ClydeR you must have an answer.

Holloway said that among those charged was a young man he had taken into his family for a time as a homeless teen, who's accused of organizing and promoting the party.
Talk about shamefully biting the hand that fed you.
He said investigators have told him the number of people charged could end up in the hundreds as they work through the sheer volume of participants.
"Everyone that broke the law, I'm pressing charges against," Holloway said. "The parents had a chance and students had a chance to come forward, and only four did.

It looks like most everyone that the police find will be charged, except possibly the four who came forward to Holloway.

I approve! Although, it's going to suck for the NY county juvenile court office, but I imagine they're busy as hell anyway.

They'll still try to sue him and say it was his fault, one way or another.

They'd be hard pressed to find a jury that would buy that shit.

From the helpmesave300.com website:
We now know was over 400 maybe even 500 people at the party and they were, planning a 4000 person party. Thank God, we stopped WOODSTOCK 4000 planned for Sept. 28, 2013, at our property. They are all alive today. That's significant. Sad but true. The arrested have descended to the -- "I'm famous, it was worth it." Failure does not equal success. Justice. All the students, kids, adults, young parents who were at the property will be arrested. (+400) possibly.

A fascinating article (http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/9893855/brian-holloway-house) on this. If you can imagine, it turns out we didn't get the whole story at first.

A fascinating article (http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/9893855/brian-holloway-house) on this. If you can imagine, it turns out we didn't get the whole story at first.
The walls of the barn had been something of a running guestbook for the Holloway family — kids who visited the home would spray paint their names on the wall. It's true that partygoers spray painted the walls of the barn, including one message of "Fuck the Po- [illegible]" but at least some of the graffiti shown in the images posted on HelpMeSave300.com had been there for years.
Well heck! As long as the wall was already written on then it's okay that these kids defaced it!
Holloway a great deal, said the damage done to the floors alone would cost somewhere in the range of $17,750, but that estimate included a complete refurbishing of floors that already carried a great deal of wear and tear.
So the damage done to the floors by the kids was less than 18k? What is this man bitching about then?
"If someone actually bought this place," a construction worker who lives in the immediate area told me, "they would just tear all this down and start new. You can't save any of this."
The kids were just doing the man a favor! Sheesh!
The story of the party in Stephentown should have been a note in the local news about the ransacking of a famous local figure's home. Brian Holloway, and Brian Holloway alone, turned what happened to his house into a national conversation, complete with its own fund-raising drive and media campaign.
I agree the fund-raising drive was a bit much, this guy has to be worth several million dollars. Other than that though why is what he did wrong? All that should have been in the news was a local story about some kids ransacking a famous person's home? This guy has no right to want to bring to light what these kids did to his home?

What he did is wrong because he solicited donations under false pretenses. That was kind of a major point in the article, I'm not sure how you missed it.

I think the major point of the article was supposed to be how he overreacted. Not sure how you missed that. Are you sure you posted this under the correct screen name?

The donations under false pretenses was the major point of the article. The last couple of paragraphs make that pretty clear that he is doing so, based on his evasion of the reporter's questions.

Not including the letter from Holloway this is the sixth to last paragraph.
One of the many tragedies of the party in Stephentown was that Brian Holloway, believer in great men, got in the way of the Brian Holloway who has dedicated his life to improving the lives of troubled youth. His tireless efforts to expand a teachable moment into a buzzy media campaign warped the truth of what actually happened to his house, and, ironically enough, proved the point he had been trying to make all along. If we agree with Brian Holloway and believe that the speed with which people can dispense information through the Internet and social media has led to a ruinous upswing in irresponsible behavior, what is the more troubling example of the trend, HelpMeSave300.com or a collection of tweets from teenagers at a party?
Kind of hard to not think the article is concerned about how he overreacted.
