The Third Rail . . . with kittens!

Metaphor met reality in New York City this week when two kittens were discovered living near the deadly third rail in New York City's subway system in Brooklyn. The subway shut down for two hours while workers attempted to rescue the cats.

Lots of angry commuters.

Just about every New York City mayoral candidate has weighed in on the subject. Some would have let the kittens die, rather than shut down the system. Others, including Anthony Weiner, would have stopped the trains to save the cats.

It's better to leave two stray cats in danger than to shut down a city's commuter system, especially when the city is already euthanizing many cats every day because there are too many of them. That could explain it. But isn't it more likely that de Blasio's sudden rise was because he was the only Democrat candidate who refused to say that he would have stopped the trains to save those two stray kittens? He shot up in the polls right at that time. It's true.
