Obama is visiting New Jersey again. Democrats should be upset. Obama is popular in New Jersey, and his visit will boost Christie's chances for re-election.


For Christie, the visit only benefits him as he seeks re-election in a state Obama won by nearly 18 percentage points in 2012; in fact, 42% of Obama voters are already supporting Christie’s re-election bid, per an NBC/Marist poll from earlier this month. Long term, Christie’s appearance with Obama could be a problem (remember Charlie Crist?), but first thing’s first for the New Jersey governor -- he’s up for re-election this year.

As a resident of NJ, I can assure you, we all see the political appearances involving Hurricane Sandy for what they are... from BOTH sides of the aisle. The right wingers will still vote Republican, and the left wingers will still vote Democrat. If the centrist, swing voters are swayed by anything, in regards to Hurricane Sandy, it will probably be based on who tried to vote down the relief funds.
