Whites Only Prom in Georgia

Georgia's Republican Governor, Nathan Deal, understands that a prom is the most important night of anybody's life, and he is not going to get the government involved in it.


Gov. Nathan Deal won't take sides in the controversy over some Wilcox County teens' efforts to integrate their prom.

By email, his spokesman, Brian Robinson, said Deal would have no response to a liberal group's call for state officials, including the governor to speak out.

He wrote, "This is a leftist front group for the state Democratic party and we're not going to lend a hand to their silly publicity stunt."

Better Georgia asked Deal and others "to publicly support the students of Wilcox County who are fighting to end a 'separate-but-equal' high school prom."

Wilcox County High School has no official prom, but for years, some parents and students have organized a private whites-only segregated prom. School officials say they have no control over that and have issued a statement in support of the integrated prom

Reminds me of a parent becoming angry because their brat was not invited to a certain party in an elementary school where said parent thinks their child deserves everything.

But the government stepping in and telling private citizens that they can't have an invitation only party, even if it excludes a race/races is insane. Next will will have people suing because they weren't invited to Jane's Pampered Chef Party.
