(CNN) – Students in other countries assessing where to study abroad are increasingly scared of coming to the United States because of gun violence, the nation's top diplomat said Monday.

Is Kerry saying that the law is working as intended?

I'd say so!

It's kind of telling that the only country he stated specifically is Japan.

He said that there are fewer students from Japan studying in the United States as a result of fear, and your response is, "John Kerry has obviously never visited a college campus"? What?

As it appears later int he article that they are sending students to all countries less, not just the US, I am not sure how he knows it's fear of guns. Did he conduct a survey? If Japan is sending less kids to school outside of their country overall, how exactly can he point at one thing. Remember, this was all due to.. "and one of the responses I got from our officials from conversations with parents here is that they're actually scared. They think they're not safe in the United States and so they don't come," Kerry said. So it's a response, he got from an official from conversations with parents that are here... so this is what, third hand information?

Top 5 countries for students coming here seem to be China, India, South Korea, Canada and Taiwan.

Lets see.. China is just as restrictive as Japan, and China is sending even more kids.

I don't know.. I really don't think any of these kids would be thinking.. Hmm.. I better not go to the US, People there own Guns!

Well.. that's not saying much. It's like having a choice between a surgeon who just had a malpractice suit against him (Bush) or the surgeon who isn't exactly sure where your kidney is in the first place (Kerry).

Would you say that a vote for Romney made a person more of an idiot then if they voted for Obama? Or that voting for any person for president makes you an idiot because they all suck?

I'd put Bush more on the Palin level than the Romney level. He made about one good decision and his party repudiated him for it.

Only Republicans are completely unable to see that Obama has done other things because they continue to be stuck in a pure election mindset. You end up with not much when your speaker announces that his only priority is to make somebody a "one term President."

Yes yes, I forget what a wonderful politician John Kerry is and what an awesome campaign he ran.

Pretty sure the thing that sunk John Kerry (and remember, he lost Ohio, and that lost him the PResidency) were false attacks on his honor by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, and some other asinine accusation of Kerry being a flip-flopper, as if ever changing your mind on an issue was a negative characteristic for a politician.

The largest negative of Kerry is his long-windedness and his patrician, blue blood perspective on the world.

Come on man. It's one thing to have an opinion when you're 20 then 10 years later after you've grown up a bit to change your mind, but this man flip flopped on issues a couple of years apart, sometimes as little as a few months apart. The guy constantly had his foot in his mouth.

Yes, it's great when a president can "evolve" on issues but I don't see anything wrong with a consistent leader as opposed to a leader who is going to change his mind depending on which group of people he feels like appeasing that day.

What were those issues again? I was in Africa at the time of the campaign, and I couldn't really keep track of the daily nuances of that campaign, but hte broad strokes seemed to be fairly ridiculous.

Here's a list of his top ten flip flopping issues. (http://www.cbsnews.com/2100-250_162-646435.html)

The first one on the list has him changing positions three times in the span of a year. The second one on the list has him flip flopping a month apart, with the famous explanation of "I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it."

That is the weakest list of 10 flip flops I've ever seen. Supporting one war against a country but not supporting a war against the same country 10 years earlier? Supporting a war given specific reasons, then not supporting it when said reasons turned out false? Supporting funding of the troops but not the way it was funded?

The rest don't even bear mentioning, lol.

Pure Election mindset.. like the fact that the guy has never stopped campaigning? Or how he has recently said his current goal is to defeat the republicans in 2014? All Obama knows how to do is campaign and fund raise. Nearly all the speeches he makes is a campaign speech, designed to demigog, and gin up anger against the right. Look at immigration, he demanded that congress work fast on it, or he would do it himself by going around them. That's not how our system works. You would think a constitutional lawyer would know this.

I am sure Japan is much nicer to live in as well. But my point is using one country's decline in students (which are sending less to every country, not just ours) does not equal students being afraid to come here.

I know how much more gun crime we have compared to Japan. An insane amount more. Also, Japan's capture and conviction rate is much much much higher then here. So I personally think that has a lot to do with it. Also, Japan's crime rate is lower in general. As for studying in Israel, why not use Iran, or Afghanistan. I am just saying, I seriously doubt that fear of being shot and killed is the reason they don't come to the US. MAYBE why they wouldn't go to college in Iran or Afghanistan.

And Reid refusing to bring any bill by Republicans in the House up for a vote in the Senate is a good way to run the Senate?

Did I specify a party? That aside, the Speaker has a lot more power than the Majority Leader (Barring Lyndon Johnson, who was the biggest BAMF Majority Leader ever.)

Newt defined the misuse of the Speakership for all parties. The Democrats aren't nearly as focused or successful at messing things up as the Republicans are, however.

How many budgets did the Senate pass recently?

I don't know, I think the Dems are just as good at fucking things up as republicans. The main difference is, we hear it every time the republican held house does something against Dem wishes, we don't really hear it when the Dems refuse to bring a bill to the floor.
