Oh. What I learned is that the degree is just a paper to open doors for *general* work life. As long as you exhibit the right attitude and have the interest, you have a chance to go anywhere. But won't lie, having something fancy on the first page of the resume would be good just to get that foot in. the rest will depend on the interview.

if you want to go into a specialised field, then yeah, an appropriate degree would be best. BIS sounds interesting though. I went to college not based on my interests but what would be the most generic degree possible to go anywhere.

I somehow ended up in IT with just a marketing and management double-degree. Huh. Everyone still asks me how that happened and I still say I do not know.

Neg reps started coming in like a landslide, people started calling HER out on being just another new poster, and then additional fun was added in when people started accusing her of trying to use the fact that she is a girl to get attention and have a bunch of guys go out of their way to help her (since that works in most online communities, but not in Gemstone due to the large % of females). She argued back, flinging her own fair share of insults (nothing was one sided here), and the topic started to cover Shattered. The discussion went on about how she was nothing new, this had all been done before, and using her sex to get attention wouldn't work in Shattered (it had been done before). Then there was some jive about how all these people on the PC talk a lot of shit, but if they weren't in Prime, she would own them with merciless PKing. Then they called her on only getting scripts for Shattered by appealing to guys, under the impression she couldn't make them herself.

In other words, the same thing that happens a LOT when a new account is made: its almost certainly a bad idea to complain about neg rep or people being snarky. All it does is multiply the neg rep and attitude 10x. There were never really any pictures, it was just the pictures from the Exorcist. Eventually, she decided that it was a losing battle and deleted most of her posts, ending on (in my opinion) a high note. Since then its just been a discussion about female body parts.

Thank you for the summary. I started to wade through and got to about page 7. There appears to be a lot of new poster fun lately and I have a theory.

I believe new PC users suffer from "over-exposure". All the old timers, they're used to seeing the same names and avatars day in and day out. Something new pops up and they mildly reject it. Then that new thing keeps popping up, over and over. Eventually that new thing has 300 posts in the span of 2 months, encompassing an approximate 80% ratio of the monthly activity.

As a recommendation to all new users. Limit your monthly posts to approximately 1 or 2 and you'll be assimilated with dignity.

I would agree with your forum culture theory though and I think that's where you're confusing people being easily offended/unfriendly. Go to any forum, they all have their own way of doing things. I've been to some forums where emoticons are not allowed, period. Moderators will edit your post and delete the emoticons and if you keep doing it they will ban you. The users will also get on your case if they see an emoticon. I've been to some forums where it's heavily slanted one way politically and the forum and moderators won't hesitate to run you off the forums if you don't fall in line with their politics or at least not get involved in political debate. It's not that these places are necessarily unfriendly, they just have their own culture and way of doing things and they don't like new people coming along and doing things differently then when people try to slap them into shape instead of saying "Oh okay sorry! I didn't know" the new people are the ones who get easily offended and start mouthing off to the regulars.

I've only been on these forums about 2 years now and in that time I've seen new people come along and integrate just fine with the regulars, I've also seen new people come along and expect everyone to do things their way and whine and complain when things don't work out for them. Usually new people have a problem for one of two reasons. 1) They are Candors. 2) They don't just complain about neg rep they receive, they throw a tantrum about the neg rep they receive and won't just let it drop when they start getting more neg rep.

Of course if you're talking about the political folder then yeah, everything I just said is bullshit.
