As a favor to any young aspiring politicians in this forum, I make this public service announcement..
In a few years, people running for public office or applying for a high appointed political position will be expected to produce copies of their sales or use tax returns to prove that they did not buy stuff from Amazon and other online retailers without paying the required tax.
When you buy from Amazon, Amazon does not collect sales tax in most states. But most states have unenforced laws requiring every resident who makes a purchase from Amazon to file a sales or use tax return with the state paying the tax. Although those laws are not rigorously enforced in most states, that will change in the near future. People hoping to sabotage a politician or political appointee will request copies of sales or use returns.
