View Full Version : Can someone explain to me why republicans don't like Obamacare?

Need some help with this one. Maybe I just don't understand Obamacare or politics in general good enough but it seems to me like the republicans should be supporting Obamacare (other than the obvious fact that it would be treason to support a socialist liberal, j/k). The way I see it is that Obamacare doesn't really do anything towards providing healthcare for anyone at the cost of the taxpayer, it's certainly a far cry from national healthcare. All it does is require that people have insurance. I would think that means to more hospital bills actually getting paid and possibly the cost of healthcare dropping while keeping the same quality or better since hospitals will have more money. It just seems to me like everything about it is right in line with the republican healthcare agenda. Seeing as how a lot of you seem to have a better grasp on politics than I do I was hoping someone could explain this one to me.

Capitalist production, therefore, develops technology, and the combining together of various processes into a social whole, only by sapping the original sources of all wealth - the soil and the laborer.

So THAT'S why I don't like Obamacare.

Obamacare is over 1,000 pages that no lawmaker read in full prior to voting on it, and you think it only contains the individual mandate?

The law creates a new unfunded entitlement, accelerates the rate of medical inflation, used obvious accounting gimmicks to say it was "funded," relies on everyone's favorite woman "Rosy Scenario" for most estimates, and will likely result in rationing through access/quality of care, because no, hospitals will not have more money.

It guarantees deep profits for big pharmaceuticals and all the major health insurers, so the fact that Republicans are against it should give opponents some measure of hope, and proponents just the ammo they need to continue defending it without knowing all the facts.

Big pharma authorized their lobbyists to spend up to $150 million in advertisements supporting the reform effort. They are in it to win it.

Big oil's got nothing on Big pharma.

I always find it amusing when people TROLL threads just to call people TROLLS and post pictures of TROLLS. Yes, it's very obvious who the trolls are.

Sounds great but I'm a little short on cash at the moment and don't make bets unless I can pay if I lose. I will throw down $10 against the spread but I get the three points.

There's no spread, given you stated they would "wax FSU".. unless "wax" now means to lose, but to cover the spread.

I'll take your $10 straight up if you want.. if not, I understand.

I'll take it straight up. Had to try to squeeze the line in, usually not a good idea to go against it but I have faith in my tigers this week.

Homers gotta homer... I understand.

And don't worry about paying me the $10 immediately.. I'll keep it on credit and let you make similar homer bets throughout the season.

I'm not worried about paying you the $10 at all, Clemson will win by 2 touchdowns. Only thing I'm trying to figure out is what to do with your money.

I'm not really sure I hate Obamacare or not. I didn't really like the idea of anyone being forced to buy insurance. I wasn't really sure what the argument against it was other than that and the stupid game politicians like to play in america called left vs right. I'm a little disappointed in all the smart ass answers I got here that seem to paint me on one side or the other. I just wanted to understand it so that I could make a decision based on the actual issues and not just vote down a party line because I'm some dumb sap who can't think for himself like the majority of america.

Sorry, Florida does. Jeffrey Demps has won the 100m dash the past 2, maybe 3 years, at NCAA. He's in the contention for the Olympics next summer.

You missed this over a month ago . . .

My prose facepalm was in response to you saying Mike Bellamy could be the fastest player in college football.

Without doubt Jeff Demps is, and will be if he doesn't quit to train for London, the fastest player in college football. It's not exactly a secret that the man is an Olympic caliber sprinter.

Florida is another team that I think everyone was underestimating going into this season. I had them picked to win the SEC east and be the only other team along with Clemson to beat South Carolina. Also to compete for a national title.

They've looked good so far. The one thing I'm concerned about is keeping Demps and Rainey healthy when they start playing real teams. They have Alabama, LSU, Auburn, then UGA for the month of October. Rainey has been showing that he is injury prone towards the end of each game and Demps is just a tiny guy. One thing to look forward to is the return of Jordan Reed next weekend. Their entire season pretty much rests in the next four games. If UF can squeek by with only 1 loss in October, then they should be a real consideration for the SEC east title.
