Saying "the time is right" because more people agree with his positions, Rep. Ron Paul of Texas on Friday announced his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination.

Read his wikipedia entry, it's pretty well written.

His biggest non-policy pro is he will actually stand by what he says. That makes him very appealing if you agree with what he says. I think he would be great because although his views are a bit drastic, he will have checks in the form of Congress.

Very interesting read. I agree with many of his stances, but not all.

Ron Paul's stance on the Fed, the economy and foreign affairs are reason enough to vote for him.

There are two consequences of that that are really worrisome for me. First, his stance on foreign intervention. It's not entirely clear at this point if Congress has any say in whether we take military action or not, and as such I would be equally uncomfortable with someone who promises to jump in 100% of foreign situations as someone who promises to jump in 0%. Second, his approach to the budget. It seems preposterously unlikely that Congress would ever agree on a budget to the degree that they could override a veto, and without that I don't see how a budget would ever get passed.
