View Full Version : New Arizona Ballot Law

Continuing its record of good legislation, Arizona passed a law (http://www.azcentral.com/news/election/azelections/articles/2011/04/14/20110414arizona-lawmakers-approve-proof-of-citizenship-to-run-for-president.html) requiring all presidential candidates on the ballot in Arizona to produce a long-form birth certificate, baptismal certificate, circumcision certificate or a couple of other items. If Certain People can't produce any of those records, then Certain People can't be on the ballot.
The bill is waiting the signature of Governor Jan Brewer.

Which part of the Constitution are you sure this law is violating by asking the Presidential nominee to provide evidence that he/she is a US citizen?

Please tell me you understood that these certificates are just some of the ones you can use to prove you are a US citizen.. and that Arizona isn't asking every nominee for President to show all of those documents....

I just found the certificates to be humorous.
I want a circumcision certificate to hang on my wall.

WTF? baptismal certificate, circumcision certificate
Those were just the first two listed.
If the candidate does not possess a long form birth certificate as required by this paragraph, the candidate may attach two or more of the following documents that shall take the place of the long form birth certificate if the candidate swears to their authenticity and validity and the documents contain enough information for the secretary of state to determine if the candidate meets the requirements prescribed in Article II, Section 1, Constitution of the United States:
(a) Early baptismal or circumcision certificate.
(b) Hospital birth record.
(c) Postpartum medical record for the mother or child signed by the doctor or midwife or the person who delivered or examined the child after birth.
(d) Early census record.
More... (http://www.azleg.gov//FormatDocument.asp?inDoc=/legtext/50leg/1r/bills/hb2177s.htm&Session_ID=102)
They're all things people have been asking for from Obama.
D. If the Secretary of State receives any documents in place of a long form birth certificate pursuant to Subsection B, Paragraph 1 and cannot determine if the presidential candidate meets the requirements prescribed in Article II, Section 1, Constitution of the United States, the Secretary of State may establish a committee to assist in the determination or hold hearings and submit any documents for forensic examination.

Dude, you're not getting it. You can get a driver's license with a record from a family bible. It has nothing to do with Christianity, it's because some people (especially older people) don't have birth certificates so states establish alternate routes. You aren't required to have circumcision or baptismal document, it's an alternate route for people who were born before state issued birth certificates .

I don't know how I'm being stupid. I'm just arguing. I'm an atheist also. My point was that proving that you're a US citizen shouldn't involve baptism/dick cutting points. It's a play to sway control in a certain direction for someone's interest, and I'm not cool with that.

This does set an interesting precedent, whereby Arizona has established any state that wants a 'future presidential candidate' born there must follow Arizona's vital record-keeping guidelines if they are to get votes from Arizona. This could be problematic for people born in Hawaii or Minnesota, neither of which generate long-form birth certificates for standard live births.
The "or" makes the bill less problematic but puzzling: "early baptismal certificate, circumcision certificate, hospital birth record, postpartum medical record signed by the person who delivered the child or an early census record."

An illegal can have a baby here (birth certificate), have that baby circumcised (I did not know there were certificates for this but whatever), and then have it baptized (baptism certificate) so I am not sure what this is going to prevent.

Interesting part is that the constitution is pretty vague on how each state chooses its electors to the electoral college. This might in fact pass legal muster everywhere but the 9th circuit. I guess it depends on the details of other state and federal legislation.

It would also let people that aren't even natural born in the US run for office, as long as they get baptized and dick cut here. It will also sway the odds a little for women, men that don't get circumcised, people who don't get baptized, and people not born in a hospital. I'm stupid though, so don't listen to me.
Edit:
1. You have a long form..good to go.
2. You don't have a long form...you need to prove it with other paperwork. Paperwork that is biased towards a certain group of people.

Early baptism is kinda moot point infact. its there as a CYA item. same with circumcision. Back in the day.. there wern't forms that were filled out for births. Apparently allot of states and governments were lax in their paper work.
Enter the one group that liked to document everything.. those evil church people. What did you say? your state never gave you a birth certificate? I am sorry, you can't prove you were born then.. O father Flanigan has a document from the church showing you were baptized 2 days after you were born? Ok, we will allow that.
No Where in that law does it say that those two items people are freaking over HAVE to be provided, or are required. Why they listed them first, who knows. Should prob have listed them last.
As for proving our President was born in America, I say hell yeah. The day other countries let us decide who should run them, is the day they can try to elect one of their people here.

Aren't children born in the US automatically citizen's, aka Birthright Citizenship? That's the whole point of the law I'm guessing, prove you are a US citizen.
