The American Library Association has produced its annual list (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brave_New_World) of the books that most deserve to be burned. The first one is about homosexual penguins. The only one I ever heard of is that one by Aldous Huxley, which deserves burning for obvious reasons.
I don't want to outlaw any of the books on the list because I'm all about free speech. But Congress should deny all federal funds to any library that carries any of the books on the list. Our tax money should not subsidize depravity. If you fund a library that carries any of those books, then it's the same as if you are funding those books.
If I were to burn any book... well, I would not burn any book.
You got me ClydeR. This time!

I own ever Huxley book. I have no clue why anyone would want to burn them.

The greatest insult to any idea is to ignore it. Burning books is a slippery slope that you don't want to go down. After all, if you can burn one under one ideology, when the ideology shifts, as it does in politics, what is next up?
Stupid idea, really stupid.

Are you serious? You can't possibly consider yourself "all about free speech" then turn around and say you think Congress should deny funding libraries that carry books that, bad as they may be, are examples of that free speech you claim to support.

I put "Point Counter Point" and "Chrome Yellow" next to my cat. She got pissed at them. BURN THEM.

I still don't understand why anyone would want to ban any book. Huxley just wrote the opposite of Orwell, but still in a manner that looks into true humanistic behavior. Most people even think "The Doors of Perception" is about drug use. It's not.

Hint: If you actually respond to ClydeR's original post thinking he seriously advocates what he's saying, you lose.
If you start a conversation with others on the board based on the topic he brings up, then you get the idea.

1) Your link is to the Wikipedia description of Brave New World, not the ALA's list.
You're right. I linked to the wrong article. The 2010 list is here (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/jacketcopy/2011/04/why-do-gay-penguins-make-people-so-mad-tango-tops-banned-books-list-again.html).

Only books worthy of being burned are financial statements before an IRS audit!

Friendly crowd, you see how they are waving at everyone like "HEY I'm glad you made it too our bonfire grab a marshmellow"? Clearly that photo is being misrepresented.

Can we stop paying taxes if we believe they are going to a Congress that is spending our tax dollars in ways we don't support? Funding a Congress that spends our tax dollars to support actions or libraries with bad books is the same as funding those things on our own.

Certainly not. They'll put you in jail if you do.
Funding a Congress that spends our tax dollars to support actions or libraries with bad books is the same as funding those things on our own.
That's why you need to vote for people who will spend money on things you support but who won't spend money on things you don't like.
