"There will not be an increase in the debt limit without something really, really big attached to it," said Speaker John Boehner (http://election2010.illumen.org/latest-news/boehner-speaks-at-stamford-fundraiser) yesterday. The debt limit is an issue apart from the budget that they agreed on last week. The government will run out of money and default on its debt around May 16 if Congress doesn't increase the debt limit.

Remember when I asked what I should stockpile for a government shutdown? Stuff like guns, ammunition, water, canned food, batteries and so on. Now I'm wondering what I should stockpile for a debt default.

For purposes of comparison, a government shutdown is like running out of gas on a lonely country road. Using the same scale, a debt default is like begin left behind after the Rapture -- which many of you sinners will be -- in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.

There's no need to add money to the list of stockpiled items, since it won't be worth anything, except kindling. It might be a good idea to stockpile seeds so that we can restart agriculture after it's over.
