LAS VEGAS (CN) - The ACLU has challenged Nevada's "marriage solemnization provisions," calling unconstitutional a state law that bans anyone without a religious affiliation from solemnizing marriages.

The ACLU sued in Federal Court on behalf of five people - three who are not affiliated with a mainstream religion but who want to solemnize marriages, and a couple who want a non-secular wedding.

This makes me really mad. Ministers aren't paid that much and make up for it by doing weddings. If the ACLU and activist liberal judges take this away, then churches who are already strained by the recession will be forced to come up with money to pay the ministers more.

Weddings have always been performed by ministers. It can't possibly be unconstitutional.

This an another example of atheists trying to co opt (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1ngMz92vwA) Christian traditions.

Yes, but in most places it's just preachers and some judges and sometimes mayors who can do weddings. The ACLU wants anybody to be able to do it. Why should somebody who's not a preacher or an elected official get to do weddings? They shouldn't. Even the Evlises in Las Vegas who do weddings are ministers.

Captain Stubing could also do weddings.

Can you imagine getting married by Mickey and/or Minnie Mouse?

Good for the ACLU.

That's a bad law on the books.
