View Full Version : Remember when high gas prices where offensive to Liberals?

Yes ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls and all the ships at sea, there was a time when high gas prices were offensive to Liberals. Yes, back when they were not in control of the government, the Presidency and trying to use them to drive more government regulation and their mush headed agenda.

http://floppingaces.net/2011/03/02/there-was-a-time-when-democrats-thought-high-gas-prices-were-bad-reader-post/

Democrats controlled the Congress from 2007-2011. They had a super-majority from 2009-2011. What did they accomplish? How much less dependent are we now on foreign oil? The truth is that we are more dependent on foreign oil than ever. Democrats failed utterly at energy, but they still are full of gas.

Not until we get someone as president that is not afraid to drill our own oil. Unfortunately we have an idiot in office who is all for 'green' energy and hates oil. One of the reason gas is so expensive is because on average $1 for every gallon is all taxes.

Not to hop on the I hate Roctar train that is running through here currently, but it is a pretty stupid leap to make... comparing Bush's first 26 months in office vs. Obama's. A better comparison would be middle of '06 to July '08 where gas jumped from about $2 to peak at just over $4.

Let's be realistic.. Obama has as much to do with today's oil prices as Bush did back in '08.

~Rocktar~
03-11-2011, 12:49 PM
Really? The comparison was to the percent change, not the actual price. Government policy, in as little as a few months can and does drive price trends, just look to the drive in your own business that was sponsored by a government rebate for home improvement championed and passed by who? Yes, that's right, the sitting administration. Give the time frame, government policy can and does effect prices, the chart simply highlights the disparity when the party in power was not too long ago yelling about the small increases under the previous administration.

Were you in the two posts previous to the one I made?

And yes, it is missing a lot of things. However, the point is, when the Democrat party was howling foul over rising gas prices, you can see they weren't changing all that much. Now that they are rising like a 16 yr old who ODed on Viagra AND being used to help push the current Liberal/Socialist agenda, you barely hear a peep. That was the point of the illustration.

In addition, administration policy can and does drive the prices of things if used in that direction regardless of what people want to believe. The current administration wants to keep prices of oil and gas high, despite clear measures that could be used to reduce the impact of foreign unrest, in order to push an agenda of ill-conceived alternative energy initiatives. I agree that we need to develop alternative energy, I don't think that punishing the already beleaguered American public with higher prices for gas, heat and electricity is the right way to do it. I would much prefer greater incentivation like was done with the energy efficiency tax credit to add insulation and upgrade heating and cooling systems to more efficient, new equipment.

But hey, according to SHM, shoes are more affordable now, so that's good, right? We should thank Obama for that because that is all thanks to him!!

REALLY!!!?!?!?!! Thank you Captain Fucking Obvious for clearing that up for us. Remember that when the board parrots warm back up for another round of "it's Bush's fault." The point of the post was, as stated earlier, to highlight the shrill shriekings of the Democrat party when gas prices rose slightly while Bush was in office yet they are quite silent now while they are in charge and using this to press their own agenda. Before, gas prices where the fault of "two oil men in the Whitehouse." Now, apparently, the President has nothing to do with it. What a crock of shit.

Keep it up dumbfuck, maybe one day the pudding in your head will congeal and you might form a coherent argument.
