State Sen. Carl Kruger, (D-Brooklyn) has revived a bill that would make it illegal to cross the street while listening to iPods, talking on cell phones, texting, or using any electronic device.
Violators would be required to appear in court, and revenue from the $100 fines would go to a fund to educate people on the dangers of device distractions, the senator said.
“This is not a nuisance offense,” Kruger said. “People are dying.”

This is a good idea. I can only hope that legislators in other states will take note and pass laws like this.

Is it possible for there to be a negative percent chance of something happening?

Yes. Because the rights and wrongs of politics purely boils down to party affiliation..
Congratulations on being among the many people that are too blind to see beyond their own nose.
And you call me a troll.

Sure so long as I don't get sued for hitting them and someone pays for the property damage to my car.

I thought we've already determined this issue (http://www.forum.gsplayers.com/showthread.php?t=58585).
As it says in the Bible, bodily exercise profiteth little. For this reason alone, people should not be out walking on the streets anyways.
In addition, this is not the fault of iPods or other devices, this is the fault of Michelle Obama and her "get moving" movement. We should fine Obama for every incident of sports or exercise related injuries.

Kruger re-introduced the bill after a Manhattan man, who reportedly was using an iPod, was killed by a truck as it backed into an Upper East Side crosswalk last month.
...
Yes, because it's not like the DRIVER was doing anything wrong.

The driver did not ask the man to go against the teachings of the Bible. Ipso facto, the driver is not at fault.

I agree with the thread change. I disagree with the law. What about people running or exercising? If they get hit, and it's found they were using a device that would distract them into getting hit...they should be the ones that pay the penalty, yes...if they're doing things that they're supposed to on a sidewalk and a delivery driver backs into them I think that counts as someoneelse's fault.

what we need is stupid people insurance, we can hit them if they are being moronic, but they need to be insured and cover us for our lost time injuries etc etc

I thought you were in favor of less government intervention?

Agreed, too bad it would likely be expensive as hell given the number of stupid people out there...

well in theory, the more customers the cheaper something is, except of course gasoline. Number of morons out there insurance should be fairly cheap, at least until so many of em wreck our cars and the rates skyrocket.

If they do this, they obviously need to take the radios out of cars too.
PS. This law is dumb.
Sorry, I didn't mean to derail the thread, so here:

Theory dictates that more customers -> more demand -> higher prices, ceteris paribus.

That won't work, because everyone else will have to pay their hospitalization bills, including any others involved in the incidents.
