52000 * .0765 = $3978 FICA
Tax tables show $3069 Federal Tax on the above income
Q&D Cali tax return shows $697 in tax. Hell, I'll use my state, Iowa, which produces $951 in tax.

Total taxes? $7998 at the most, which is a very far cry from their "calculation" of $20769. Sorry, makes the entire thing read as bullshit to me.

Ultimately, yes. Weekly salary/hourly checks are calculated out and withhold on average less than the 25% Federal withhold.

Large Bonus and Commisions are set at 25% then you add in the FICA + Medicare, etc and often it will be above 35-40%. This is the reason it seems to you that you are getting over taxed.

In the end, your tax refund will balance out your tax rate for both these income sources.
