View Full Version : Anne Rice Can't Be Christian and Democrat

NEW YORK — Anne Rice has had a religious conversion: She's no longer a Christian.

"In the name of Christ, I refuse to be anti-gay. I refuse to be anti-feminist. I refuse to be anti-artificial birth control," the author wrote Wednesday on her Facebook page. "In the name of ... Christ, I quit Christianity and being Christian. Amen."

Rice said she is a Democrat who supports the health care legislation signed into law by President Barack Obama and believes gay marriage inevitably will be permitted throughout the country. Although no longer part of any denomination, she remains a believer and continues to read theology and post Biblical passages on her Facebook page. She has no immediate plans to write about her leaving the church and will continue with her metaphysical fiction series, "Songs of the Seraphim."

Although she made the wrong decision here, Rice was smart to recognize that you can't be both a Christian and a Democrat. I blame her for the unfortunate vampire craze sweeping the country.

She claims to remain committed to Christ, just not the religions surrounding Him.

Personally I think she just likes publicity. All her books after The Vampire Lestat suck ass.

Tale of the Body Thief was pretty decent. But yeah, a lot of the other stuff reflected her earlier less-mentioned publications and subsequent writing style.

I thought Blood and Gold (the one about Marius) was pretty awesome.

Omg Tisket you are going to hell. There are shiny vampires there and emo kids and everything starts with 'Twilight' even potatoe chips (Twilight Ruffles).

Also Clyde please stick to politics so as to not hurt my feelings.

Anne Rice invented sexy vampires. Which means she is awesome.

The End.

/Robin 1995 ala black hair+Marilyn Manson. Also Robin 2005 ala Vampire Masquerade+latex

I enjoyed her vampire chronicles until she chose to merge the series with the mayfair witches series. Never understood that and quit reading at that point. As for her decision, I agree with her that Christianity shouldn't be "religion", but rather a relationship. There should be more to it than showing up at any given church for an hour once a week and voting republican. "Religious" people miss the point, I think. Go Anne.

I like her vampires fine. It's her overly emo witch series and other writings that I can't stand.

And as far as Twilight goes, even though I've not seen any of the movies yet, they still manage to make me feel feel uncomfortably embarrassed for vampires everywhere.

Servant of the Bones was an excellent novel, as was Memnoch the Devil.

Worth repeating. I've tried reading a few of her other vampire books, and they were so horrible that I stopped reading them entirely. All those emo, preachy monologues were as boring as fuck.

But...why was this bullshit in the news?
