If we don't elect enough Republicans to repeal health reform, then Tennessee is going to secede, according to a leading Republican candidate for governor of Tennessee.

Rep. Zach Wamp, one of three candidates seeking the GOP gubernatorial nomination in Tennessee, told Hotline OnCall that Perry had the right idea. Wamp argued that mandates forced on the states by the Obama administration's health care bill have put secession on the table.

"I hope that the American people will go to the ballot box in 2010 and 2012 so that states are not forced to consider separation from this government," Wamp told Hotline OnCall Friday.

Wamp said he hopes voters send a message in November that the federal government should "strictly adhere" to the Constitution.

"Patriots like Rick Perry have talked about these issues because the federal government is putting us in an untenable position at the state level," he told OnCall.

You know he's really mad about it too. Otherwise, a landlocked state wouldn't even consider seceding.

They won't secede. I'm using my incredible powers to see into the future. I promise they won't, even without enough Republicans.

It could happen. Key West did. Then the next day they demanded foreign aid from the US Govt.

Long Live the Conch Republic. "We seceded where others failed!"

I grew up in Key West- they did secede, but were too drunk to do anything about it.

Having visited Key West I must concur with this. I'm surprised anything gets done around there.

Does anyone take the key west secession seriously? It seems like it's been just a fun joke.

I viewed it as a publicity stunt.

Didn't Texas recently (past year) also threaten to secede?

Doesn't the US congress constantly threaten to succeed?

God it would be awsome if congress seceded. We would prolly get at least 2 days off work for all the elections.

Yes. Gov. Rick Perry said that in a speech recently at a tea-party tax rally.

Yeah I just looked it up. Their military consists of about 10 civilian boats.

The US shouldn't have surrendered. Publicity stunt or not, they should have felt the full extent of the US military and experienced a full scale occupation. I would like to see Tennessee breathe a word of secession with a history of that retaliation.

Well I don't agree with secession. But as a general matter, the Republican Party has some of the best candidates ever this year. Just look at Florida, Tennessee, Kentucy, Nevada and everywhere else. These are top drawer people, the kind of people you'd want teaching your kids in school, and certainly the sort of folks who should be running this country.

The best Republican in Florida is running as an Independent. Nevada is a certifiable nut case.

That would be some shit, the first state to leave the union.

Someone needs to punch that republican in the baby maker though.
