We knew the press corp was in the tank for Obama, but even a reporter from CNN seems to have JUST enough integrity to call him out on the floor.

Had this happened so blatantly with Bush, the hippies would still be crying on their tie dyed skirts.

I love how liberals bitch and whine about Fox, when the Huffington Post exists for their benefit.

....

The HuffPost reporter asked one of the toughest questions during the press conference. "Will you recognize Ahmedijanad as the president of Iran?" is a pretty damn tough question to answer. In fact, Obama basically ducked the question.

I'm not sure it's really an issue of planting the reporter/question if the question is actually hard.

Plus: Uh, didn't this actually happen with Bush? That Jeff Gannon/Guckert guy or whatever?

It happens with everyone. It's not a party thing, it's a politician thing.

The only difference here is that Obama claimed to be above 'politics as usual', so his hypocrisy is showing a little bit from under his pretty red dress.

Eh, I think we're getting played by the mainstream media on this. I think they're upset that Obama broke tradition and gave the HuffPost reporter the second question of the conference, instead of doing all the wires and networks first, and thus they're calling it a planted question.

What the HuffPost reporter did was to request his various Iranian sources (he's their lead guy on the crisis) to submit questions for him to ask. The administration let him know that they wanted a question from an Iranian citizen to be asked at the conference, probably so they could engage in a bit of public diplomacy directly with the people of Iran. The reporter announces this on his blog (i.e. full disclosure ahead of time) collects a bunch of questions from his Iranian sources, picks one quietly, and attends the conference. (the administration's press team does make sure the guy gets a good seat in front of all the cameras, but they still have no idea what the question is, beyond it being something on Iran) Obama calls on him after taking the AP's question first, and then gets a fairly difficult question.

If the HuffPost reporter asked a softball question or did this all in secret, then yes, I'd be right with you both in saying "Plant!" But he did this in the open, and it was a hard question. In fact, it's so hard that Obama pulls the normal politician thing and doesn't answer it.

So is it really an issue of a planted question? Or is it really the White House press corps getting their panties in a twist? I tend to think the latter.

I don't think it's a big deal.

I tend to agree.

Administrations always use the media for propaganda. Why expect this one to be any different?

From today's White House Press Briefing:
CBS, Helen Thomas Challenge Gibbs On "Controlled" Town Hall Meeting - Real Clear Politics (http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2009/07/01/cbs_helen_thomas_challenge_gibbs_on_controlled_tow n_hall_meeting.html)

Stating there is a pattern of "controlling the press", and that questions are "tightly controlled" and "pre-screened" and "controlled" by a White House that calls for openness and transparency.

Also available at C-SPAN, at about the 14:00 mark:
White House Briefing with Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, Daily Briefing 7/01/09 (http://www.c-span.org/Watch/Media/2009/07/01/HP/A/20377/White+House+Briefing+with+Press+Secretary+Robert+G ibbs.aspx)

The herald horn of Marxism and Comunism, control the press, control the people. Hell, even Clinton and Gore weren't this scared of the press.

I don't know what I should laugh at. Your use of Marxism/Communism. your belief that he's controlling the press to any degree greater than any of his predecessors, that he's afraid of the press (he's controlling it AND afraid of it) or that you actually believe any of it.

This is the story in a nutshell, he called on a blogger who had already solicited A question, just like anyone in the press core routinely does, who was acting as a medium for an Iranian reader's question ... which was ducked.

Other members of the press core are butt hurt because Obama has once again broken with the tradition of "big media first".

Now if you're so dead set against anything that smells of socialism (which you would call Marxism/communism) stay in your home (meaning off the road or sidewalks) and in the event of fire or burglary ... deal with it yourself.

And here I thought this thread was about a Chia Obama becoming self-aware and attacking people.
